By chance we arrived at the temple at 2pm which was perfect timing to see the monks & their musicians go into the main shrine to chant/sing for over half an hour. The congregation was large and were following the chants from large Buddhist books. It made for a wonderful atmosphere and brought the temple alive. The gifts donated to the monks were impressive! The temple itself is very ornate and is flanked on both sides by some excellent water features. On your way there check out the action around the Longshan MRT station park ... a lot of locals gathered to play board games and generally socialize together.
This is considered one of the most important temples in Taiwan and it shows. The detail level is outstanding and there are many people visiting. It's well preserved. Lukang doesn't have much except this temple so if you are in town make sure you see it.
East to get to on MRt it is also signposted. Lots of worshipers all praying in different ways. It was very interesting to watch Two different main sections The statues are beautiful although you can not take photographs of some. There were lots of flowers as offerings which made it very colourful. It can get very busy at times but worth the visit to see the architecture inside and outside.
