Interesting place to walk with many shops & Taiwanese snacks sold along the old street, like a night market. It is located beside Tamsui MRT (last stop on red line) station, just a 35 minutes ride from Taipei main station. Exit Tamsui MRT on the left, walk to the back of the station and then head right, past the park and you will see Old Street. There are 2 lanes of Old Street-one that is nearer to the station (a more crowded one with stalls on both sides) & another lane parallel to it which is facing the river. The famous Jumbo ice cream & A-Gei stall is along this stretch facing the river. Must try! Just beside Old Street is the Tamsui river. It's a nice place to stroll, relax & enjoy the breeze and the view from the river banks. I enjoyed my time here. I visited Fishermens' Wharf to see the Lover's Bridge (take bus R26 from bus terminal beside Tamsui station. Abt 20 min bus ride) at sunset first, then headed to Tamsui Old Street after that. 2-3 hours at Tamsui would be enough to go to both places.

It has all kind of night market food and games. Many good seafood restaurants nearby and it is worth to taste little by little with different kind of night market food after a bike trip. Fun to walk around but do watch out your pocket.

Tamsui Old Street is one of the most interesting street markets of Taipei area. If you want to have a typical Taiwanese experience (and they love street markets!), you must visit it. Very close to Tamsui MRT Station, it is good option to someone who wants to buy cheap baubles or likes eating Taiwanese food. And, of course, take the oportunity to visit the nearby attractions!

We took MRT Route 2 Tamsui-Xinyi line 淡水信義線 from Taipei Main Station to Tamsui in about 30 minutes and more. Alighted at Tamsui and boarded a bus in front of the station to Fisherman Wharf in another 20 minutes. The fare was quite cheap. Not many visitors were around as there was not much to see during week-days. It was quite windy, and the only attraction we found is the Love Bridge 情人橋. According to local hawkers, this bridge is a good spot for lovers who like to frequent and build their love! As there was not much to see, we boarded the bus and back to the famous Tamsui Old Street There were many hot and cold food stalls of various kinds. You got to be smart as prices were varied despite the same thing between the front and middle stalls.

it is super packed and fun at the old streetso many food shacks that you simply can't count, the taste is mediocre thoughpace yourself, do not rush into buying too much food, the stand at the entrance tend to be more expensive, just be aware

Going to Tamsui is not difficult. It's actually fast by riding the train. Just hop on the line and Tamsiu is at the end of the station. Once you reach Tamsui station, it's right there! The street is populated by food stalls of different kinds, there's also some cute merchandise as well. From Tamsui you can just walk down to the Fisherman Warf and take a very short ferry ride to visit the Love Bridge. At the time of our visit, the temperature was really cold, the ferry ride was chilly. Going back to Tamsui, we opt to take the bus to keep ourselves warm.

My wife had previously visited here during the week and it was very quiet with most of the shops closed up.We then went back together on a sunny Sunday and it was packed with people bustling around with all the shops and eating places open and street acts. You have the choice of walking along the sea front or in land slightly amongst all the shops. Well worth visiting and spending a whole day there, but only at the weekend.

For a really different side of Taipei, ride the Metro #2 red line to the terminus at Tamsui and enjoy the north coast of the island. Old Street is like stepping back in time, with wooden fishing boats tied up at the wharf and tea shops serving Oolong tea and the Taiwan delicacy, pineapple cake.
