特拉木坎力冰川

You will drive through some stunning scenery to get here, somewhat reminiscent to me of mountains in southern Utah but just stunning. At the end you have a fairly steep climb of about 40 degrees to arrive a the edge of a cliff form where you can see the glacier. Once you catch your breath, that is, as you are well over 10,000 ft. Total climb is 30-60 minutes depending on your pace. But it is steep. What you will see is an entirely black glacial river slowly oozing down the mountains after cutting its way through ancient lava flows. These lava flows coat the ice in black volcanic dust which give the whole place a surreal, and otherworld look to it. If you are into nature, this is one variant on it you don't come across often at all. I suggest it if you can pace yourself and make the climb. Stunning pictures at the top.
