At a one hour train ride from Amsterdam, a stroll to the center of DenHaag and an incredible art collection. Most known is the Lady with the Pearl. Worth the trip for the museum and the town center.
Fairly small museum but with several interesting pieces. Regular exhibitions.A short queue to enter but nothing too bad. Price may be slightly on the steep side considering.
From Vermeer's 'girl with the pearl earing' to Rembrandt's Anatomy lesson - this is where you need to be to see masterpieces of the Dutch Golden Age up close and personal. The Museum is brilliantly designed and exceeds expectations! Check the museum's 'plan your visit' website first and go early !
An outstanding collection of Dutch Golden Age art, housed in a beautiful mansion. It's a charming museum with a very specific character. Of course, such a famous collection in such an intimate setting means it can get crowded easily, so if you can, come on a weekday afternoon (it's quieter after 3 pm), or try the Thursday evening opening. Being an E-ticket will save you the ticket office que, but you still might have to stand in line to get into the exhibition space itself. The ticket currently also gives access to the nearby museum Bredius, which is less grand in terms of collection but firmly off the main tourist radar. It's worth the short walk, and on a rainy weekday, you're likely to find yourself alone there.
Mauritshuis is in general a great and lovely Art Museum. Except the organisation... still with an E-ticket you have to queue outside (40 min wait around 15pm) then Frick Collection was disapointing only about 20 paintings, sculptures to see ... for the permanent collection, a pure Delight for the eyes ....
Took the train (day return) from Amsterdam to The Hague, not completely sure where Mauritshuis was situated, but helped by a young student, who just about took me there. A bit of a queue, but nothing to worry about. Got inside after a few minutes, and wow. A refurbished mansion filled with the most wonderful paintings. The rooms retained original panelling and plasterwork. But the art, 'The Girl with the Pearl earing' is sublime, also many Dutch artists that are not so well known. The paintings I enjoyed were of flowers and vegetables. Go and see it and be amazed. Also good café/bistro with good food.
A very nice compact museum for Dutch paintings. Compared to the National Gallery, Louvre, Prado or even Rijks, this is tiny. So, for your ticket, the paintings per Euro equation is not good. But how many paintings can you take in in one visit anyway? There are some really nice paintings there. The only downside of it's size is that it has a tendency to get crowded on weekends. So, get there early before lunch. But then again, it never gets as crowded as the room where Mona Lisa is kept in the Louvre.
I enjoyed my visit to Mauritshuis Museum a lot. If you are interested in painting, you must definitely see this museum, especially if you would like to know more about Dutch painters who are great as well but not well-known as much as the popular ones. I had a chance to see impressive paintings which I still can enjoy when I close my eyes.Worth seeing, do not hesitate.
I grew up in the Hague, so I have visited the Mauritshuis museum on several ocassions but the last time might have been 20 years ago. The Mauritshuis was closed for an extensive restauration between 2012 and 2014. Therefore, I was curious to see the new Mauritshuis. It was just amazing. This museum has several top paintings by Rembrandt, Vermeer and Fabricius (including the Goldfinch depicted in Donna Tartt's book). Also, the Frick collection from New York was temporarily on display. Beautiful, beautiful.Even my 13-year old daughter who hates museums loved the visit.
A treasure trove with some of the most beautful paintings of the world. remember the girl with the pearl Earring, yes she is better looking (and more colourful) than Mona Lisa. The small palaces houses more great paintings (by Rembrandt, van Hals and many more) an is a sight in itself as well. Nothing negative ? Yes the bistro is rather disastrous and expensive. So get your food and drinks outside.
