For the past seven years, I have been coming back as an alumni of UST. It is with pride to state that it is the oldest catholic university of the Philippines. It is a pontifical university. The Main Building still stands and contains the museum. I recommend visiting UST specially those students who come home for a visit. You will be amazed at the development in the campus.
I'm giving it a poor rating because you can't even enter the campus. The security is very tight in the university. It's a gorgeous campus, with beautiful architecture and greenery and so much history, but you can't go in without an ID or a good excuse so I really wouldn't recommend going here... unless you know someone who can get you inside.
Why the ranking is so high? Who cares about the academic performance since you can't even enter the campus? This place is NOT open for tourists. You will be stopped by an armed security unless you have the permission. If you want to waste your time for a while, then just go.
Every time i visit, nostalgia gets over me. The historic main building is an imposing facade to the years before us and its academic reputation as not only old but excellent education makes you want to enjoy and wonder about the place. The place in itself is large to walk around with the trees that provide shade makes the pondering more enjoyable. The place has a hospital, church, gym, football field aside from the school building. There are plenty space for parking and food to buy. With all the concrete around UST provides fresh breath of air.
Large campus, if you can get in the main buildings you will be amazed at the paintings. MRT station close by and a jeepney stop outside also
One of the oldest institutions of higher learning in Asia - take a stroll around the grounds to appreciate the history and unique buildings that have stood the test of time...
UST campus has a big soccer field space which simbang was held every December of 16th-25th. There are a lot of food stalls inside to choose from whenever you want to eat. Also has church and museum inside the campus which is rare.. Very nice place to visit and to go around.
They have maintained the buildings well. The school is clean and security guards are courteous. Very impressive architectural school buildings. A must to visit when in Manila, Philippines
The oldest University in Asia and the Royal Pontifical University of the Philippines. Home of the growling tigers. Visit UST during paskuhan
UST is rightfully proud of its long and prestigeous history as one of the oldest universities in Asia. The campus is studded with impressive architecture and sprawling grounds. Worth a short visit if you're in the area of Espana.
It's official name is The Pontifical and Royal University of Santo Tomas, The Catholic University of the Philippines. Today, it is popularly known as the U.S.T. Established in 1611 it is one of the oldest universities in the Philippines and the largest in Manila. It is a top university in the Philippines and has one of the highest number of Catholic student enrollees in the world. The national hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal, is one of its famous alumni. UST takes pride in producing heroes, presidents and famous religious personalities.
Most of my children studied here and my eldest even worked at university hospital before she went abroad. This school is the oldest university in the country. The buildings are composed of the old and the new structures.
With the museum closed for renovations, there really wasn't much to see. A couple of nice outside views, but that's about it. Should've checked on-line before I went. Not worth the taxi fare or time otherwise. With the museum not open, I had to go through their public affairs office just to get a pass to walk around the campus. Remarkably tight security.
the famous catholic school in the country although lately can find many development happening inside the school but still standing is the main relic bldg. altho an advise never try to visit the place at raining days.
The University of Santo Tomas is the oldest university in the Philippines and in Asia. The Main Building is an architectural feast. There is also a museum inside the Main Building. The campus also has several parks and gardens and landmarks (Arch of the Century, Plaza Mayor, Central Seminary, etc.) which are worthy of your visit. If you are a Catholic, you may also pay a visit at the Santissimo Rosario Parish which is also located inside the campus. Great time to visit is during December during the Paskuhan celebration which is like a university-wide Christmas Party which starts with a mass. There are also performances from students of different colleges plus food and raffle. Not a good time to visit is during rainy season as the streets nearby become flooded.
