Our taxi driver tour guide took us here on our tour of the city of Belize. It is a nice piece of colonial history and an interesting building built by slave labor. We did not get to explore the cemetery. There is some nice stained glass and mahogany wood carvings. Worth the visit. They do ask for a small donation which we were glad to contribute.

If your not going on a day trip from the cruz walk here and see the other sites along the way I would awl on the road closer to the shore the main road is full of local stores and a bit scary I walked with my wife and a lot of camera gear and felt plenty safe or take a cab the church is beautiful leave a donation in the box so the can keep it open

The simple architecture and realization of how old the actual building is and how many people have passed through the doors seeking guidance is a peaceful experience. Well worth a stop and visit.

This historical landmark is currently operational as a place of worship and school. It was on our tour with Calypso Train Tours and a wonderful photo op. Our guide was very knowledgeable with the cathedral's history and explained that the cathedral was built with bricks that used to ballast slave ships. It was very interesting. The cathedral is the oldest church in British Honduras, founded in 1812 which then became Belize, a commonwealth. St. John's is located across the street from the Governor's Mansion. Its magnificient architecture has stain glass and mahogany. The beautiful mahogany front doors is a welcoming site. We did not enter since it was not one of the "stops". But would have loved to see the inside of the cathedral.

We walked by it ax it was close (at1500). The history and architecture was worth the stop. Try to fit a stop on your walk of the town

I personally love to visit old places that are still being used. St. John's is just such a place. You can admire the old brick work, stained glass, and how the church is set up to serve it's parishioners today. A fun little visit for a history buff.

The added electrical fans and lighting hanging from the ceiling take away from the interiors charm, but the front door and the exterior are beautiful.

The Cathedral, built in 1812 of bricks is truly a place to visit. The guide at the office told of its history with reverence....The British, after winning the Battle of St. George's Caye and deciding that this land will now be our home, started erecting landmark buildings in the settlement of British Honduras -- using the bricks that came on the ships from England as ballast, they broke ground and establish the Cathedral. Made of bricks on the outside, with mahogany and sapodilla furnishing on the inside, it boast a central chandelier, brass eagle bible stand, a stain glass liking of Jesus on the cross and many historical plaques on its walls.St John's Cathedral has a solid place in Belize's history........interested in historical buidings'?....go see the Cathedral and walk around its grounds.

We got to go to the cathedral on our city tour of Belize. Pretty front doors made out of mahogany wood. pretty inside as well, but small. they ask for donations from anyone who visits, there is a box by the front door. Outside the cathedral is neat as well. Make sure to go around back, there is a pretty stained glass window at the top of the cathedral.

The church is more interesting from the outside. It's an old buliding, From inside is plain Aglican style with nothing interesting. No pictures, no paintings, nada! The walls are filed with incriptions from donators!!The roof is from wood!!! Anyway, since Belize city has very few attractions, it's a must see! It's an old church after all!
