Lovely snorkeling location for novices and experienced. Snorkel right off the island on the reef. The island is protected by the Rangers who enforce the protected status 24-7. The island is as picturesque as it gets and the snorkeling not too shabby either. We hired local 30 year veteran, "Cagey" Elton Eiley, at Belize: 523-3161, for the boat ride out and guided snorkel. Gear is provided by Cagey and his family run business, along with a fantastic lunch; probably the best red beans and rice I ever had. I highly recommend Cagey - he may not have a fancy website or boat but you cannot go wrong because he is highly skilled with a wealth of knowledge of the local area that cannot be compared with the larger more advertised businesses. His prices are much much lower than the larger businesses. He also runs a Monkey River tour and knows the ins and outs to seeing the most animals. Wish we had more time to take that tour with him, He is a delight!
The sights and scenery from this landmark were amazing. Thanks to a tip from Mr. Gill of Belmopan, who hooked us up with his friend "Cagey" Elton Eiley, 523-3161. 'Cagey' provided a wonderful ride out to the Park on his boat "Enforcer", guided the first half of the snorkeling, and even sat and ate lunch with us. He made the meal earlier that morning. Best red bean and rice I've ever had and the grilled chicken and slaw were to die for. Booking with 'Cagey' is a MUST if you're going to see Laughing Bird Caye National Park.
Just returned from a few weeks on the Placencia Peninsula, One of the best day trips we experienced of this visit was a day trip to Laughing Bird Caye National Park with Splash Dive Center to snorkel the caye and enjoy a bbq lunch. The ranger was knowledgeable and the guides Splash where excellent sharing their knowledge and experience of the area. Laughing Bird is a must visit while in the Placencia area.
We went snorkeling out at this little gem. Our tour company provided and amazing lunch, our leads were able to show us many species of fish as well as share their passion for this area
Only six of us on the trip plus our guide and boat captain. We stopped to net some sardines to fish with at another location en route to the Caye. I managed to catch a 2-1/2' barracuda which the captain prepared for our lunch while we snorkeled. Fun time!
Snorkeling on the lee side of the caye resulted in the visibility being wonderful. Did not realize that protected lobsters would grow so large
We wanted to do silk caye but the guide at eagle ray said the weather was not favorable to go out that far so we settled for laughing bird. It was a long trip out there (45 min and rough) but our guide (Lenox) did a great job of getting us out there. We did a half day trip (1-4) which was just enough time. Lenox got us in the water quickly and we were off snorkling. We started at one end of the island and worked our way down to the other end. It is relatively shallow (20 feet at deepest, usually around 10-15 most of the time) so you could stay on the surface of the water and still see alot. We saw nurse sharks, lobsters, barracuda, angel fish, parrot fish, and so much more. The island itself if tiny - just an outhouse on one end and picnic tables on the other. We were the only ones out there, so it was nice. But I could see it getting crowded quickly (both in the water and on the island). Not sure how the full day trips work, but it might be too many people there to be enjoyable if you went in peak season and was there all day.
Great place to dive and snorkel from. The dive instructors were great. They BBQ a great lunch in between dives or times out snorkelling really good cooks and lots of food.
Water is warm, easy access from the shore. It was too windy on the day we were there, but we enjoyed the snorkeling!
ok for beginners but very crowded tour. guides quite good and the bird and sea life interesting but there are better in
