It has been a while since I stayed there, but I can't believe I didn't write a review at the time. Where to begin? Pauline and Fernando and their wonderful, easy-going welcome; the beautiful buildings, simple and welcoming and in great taste; the bliss of riding through the Chiantlas countryside: Pauline is great with nervous, first time riders. The night sky!! you can see why the Mayas were such astronomers. Delicious home made food. Crisp cool sheets and hot water bottles. And to know about Pauline and Fernando's social responsibility: they invest in the local library, youth groups, set up recycling programmes and support traditional architecture. Writing this makes me homesick for that night sky. I will be back!
This is a lodge primarily designed for horseback riding excursions for experienced riders, but it is also a charming family-owned farm, where the owner, Pauline, keeps and lovingly cares for her very-well trained horses and can teach newbies how to ride correctly in hour-long lessons. (Our family enjoyed so much riding horses for the first time, we look forward to someday taking the tour to nearby Magdalena lagoon, or perhaps a longer camping excursion in the wilderness.) The accommodations are simple but very comfortable. Pauline cooks a delicious dinner served in a big table where visitors can get to know each other and share travel tips. The grounds offer jaw-dropping views of the Guatemalan highlands (the valley is located on a plateau over 3000 meters above sea level, so it gets cool at night!) It is an experience that nature lovers should not miss!
The farm is in a beautiful area of Guatemala that I have never been to before. The hotel is clean and comfortable, cold at night but they give you hot water bottles which made sleeping toasty. We took a two hour horse ride and loved it. The horses are obviously well cared for, the scenary amazing. The owner was full of information of the surrounding areas which was helpful to us. I definitely recommend it and will be back for a longer ride!
This was an amazing experience at Los Cuchumatanes, the place is beautiful. There´s a lot of family activities you can enjoy if you are staying at the Inn, the property has a place where you can watch all the view of a lot of the Guatemalan volcanoes, you can ride the horses, or go and have a picnic at the Laguna just a few kilometers away. The food is really good too. We just had a great time staying at this inn because it is already at the top of the mountain which has Central America´s highest grounds.
Pauline is the kindest, most competent, horse person/teacher and exactly what we as a family needed. But she can also adapt to more experienced riders for sure. The place is magical and quite unique even within Guatemala.
