Just having an amazing lunch at Museo Azul Maya! Beautiful setting, friendly staff, gracious owner. Will visit what promises to be an interesting museum. Highly recommend.
The Museo, conveniently located in Calle Monteray, a half block from Calle Santander, is new this year. Set in a lovely courtyard where lunch and drinks are served, the museum is filled with an old family collection of Mayan history.Adriana owns the family home.Gracious service and a wonderful place to relax with friends. We play bridge there, and for only 100Q, we were provided with guacamole, fruits and more for 4 couples. There is also free wi-fi.
The perfect place to spend a lazy day drinking coffee and chatting about the amazing collection of Mayan artifacts on display, that the owners family had previously kept as a private collection. There are some beautiful and pieces on display, including an intact human tooth with jade embedded within it! I really do love it here, and return every time I visit the lake!
Museum had poor lighting and was poorly exhibited. It appears the intent was good but the implementation was lacking. English and Spanish were documented but the English needs some re work. Access is in a hotel courtyard at the end of the main tourist street in Panajache.
Azul Maya is a tranquil little museum located just off the main road in Panajachel. It is a cozy and tranquil spot, away from the noise of the street and is an ideal place to relax for an hour or two and absorb a nice collection of Mayan artifacts with signage in Spanish and English. The cost in Oct 2014 was 25Q for entry and it takes 30 minutes to an hour depending on how closely you want to view the artifacts and read the information provided. The museum is run by a young woman operating the place as part of her grandfather's dream to exhibit the history of the Maya. This alone makes it a great cause to put a couple Q toward and learn about the Maya who are so important to the history of Guatemala.
I tried this new cafe on a quiet street in Panajachel and was happy I did. It was a hot day, and I was looking for a cool place to spend my lunch time. The cafe is situated in a nice garden with plenty of shade. The gardens are lovely and offer a nice respite from the busy streets. The small menu offers a few types of paninis, pastas, and salads. Another menu offers drinks. My pasta was delicious with fresh ingredients, and my juice was fresh and tasty.I explored the museum while I waited for my lunch. They have a nice and extensive collection of pre-hispanic items. Adriana was very gracious and friendly.
We visited the new Mayan museum Azul Maya in Panajachel and we had a nice time here. We chatted with the nice owner Adriana and she showed us around. She also told me that it was always her and her grandfathers dream to open this museum to show the life of the Mayas to the world. It is a cute place with a little café where you just feel comfortable!
