While we didn't visit while turtles were present, we learned a great deal about the extensive efforts to save this endangered species. It was also quite interesting to stroll along the beach where they lay their eggs.
Small exhibit area, with very knowledgeable hostess. Kept my daughter's attention. Explained about the sea turtles nesting behavior, with small exhibits. We were here unfortunately when the turtles aren't nesting.
Loved learning about the sea turtles' life cycle and all the efforts Costa Ricans are making to ensure their lives on this fragile planet.
The staff were really friendly and knowledgable. We watched an excellent video about turtle conservation in a large room with plenty of seating if you are on a tour. The information boards were good and the models and display items too. If you are travelling independently and want to avoid the crowds, maybe go in the morning. It's a good activity if the rain is lashing down....which it regularly does in Tortuguero!
They gave a good presentation of what they were doing and why it was important. We were no there during turtle season.
Great video that explains how Costa Rica helped the natives move from hunting sea turtles and their eggs to becoming guides and the protectors of the sea turtles.
Learned so much about sea turtles. Thanks to the many people that keep this operation running. It is so needed. We even adopted a turtle.
STC was an interesting stop where we learned what is being done by the locals as well as volunteers from around the world to protect and further the growth of sea turtle populations. Even received a turtle ID number for a tagged turtle. Each time the turtle is picked up on GPS system, I get an email telling me where my little friend is traveling! Great program!
Not a huge amount to it, but film and information is very interesting. The girl on the front desk was very helpful and informative.
The little museum was ok. Did learn some things about the turtles. It would have been interesting to see the turtles hatching, but we were there the wrong time of year. Of course, that was not the museum's fault.
Since we were not here at the time to see turtles at the beach, we saw a film about the turtles project in Costa Rica- very interesting!
Informative lecture describing the life cycle of the Turtles. Opportunity to see turtles nesting and hatching during various seasons. Very useful especially for the children
We were after the peak season for turtles, but were lucky just after dark to find a nest with dozens of the hyper little wigglers emerging and beginning their race to the crashing surf. Simply: awesome.
We were not big turtle fans, but this place is very interesting and the turtles' story is fascinating.
We were able to see a turtle lay her eggs, burry them and then we were allowed to follow her as she went back to the sea. It was a remarkable experience. The staff was very knowledgable and great with our kids.
