The beach in Playa Chiquita itself is quite small with fingers of rock covered with choral intermixed with some areas of white sand. There is enough sand for pleasant swimming but no good for surfing. However within a short distance of less an 1/2 mile either way there are long beaches of sand great for swimming and surfing. The scenery is outstanding in all directions. It is easy to spend hours on the shore line. Highly recommend the area.

I was travelling to Costa Rica in April 2014 and although many people told me to visit the pacific side, I chose to rent a car and drive all the way to Cahuita. It was night and most rooms were already booked for the Easter holidays. Then out of sudden, we reach a hotel that is made of wood with two floors that give you a view of the carribean sea.. We got our appartment and went swimming right away. The water was very warm. There was full moon, so you could see the immense beach surrounded by a forest of coconut trees . We went back to our place, had some mangos for dinner that melt in your mouth and went to bed. Most of the furniture was made from bamboo wood, there was a veltillator and this gave you a feeling of the old times. Then, in the middle of the night, heavy tropical rain woke us up and went outside to watch the big amounts of water that were hitting us in the middle of this jungle..In the morning, the air was pure. We had typical costa rican breakfast consisting of fresh fruit juice, gallo pinto (rice and beans with spicy sauce) and eggs in the garden. Tropical birds with red noises and long legs were keeping us company. We couldnt close our eyes, not even for one moment! Nature at its best! Intense colours of flowers, the most vivid red and yellow and orange that not even the greatest painter good possibly make! Banana trees and mangos, butterflies with electric blue feathers and in the water black fish with little blue sparkling dots. We played with the monkeys and laughed at the gorilla sounds. We came closer to a way of life where eternity is present. Nothing changes but since everything is so beautiful, nothing needs to change. The everyday temperature of 25 degrees allows you not to have windows and little by little you become one with nature, your true home. One would for sure feel very little and insignificant in this landscape and it is by disappearing that you trully feel your are part of heaven. In this place, western trends are no longer important and you would certainly not miss events and concerts and opinions and all those things that you have been squizzing for years in your agenda. Cause playa chiquita is giving you the real life where things happen to you without big effort, like a mango fruit that falls on your balcony ready to be enjoyed.I am still not quite sure if I ever came back... Sitting in my office, it is these moments that I recall when I need to feel peace and optimism again in my blood.

We liked it for its natural beauty, the roar of the waves on the distant reefs. It was very peaceful and relaxing and we spent a beautiful day basing in the sun and swimming. Nothing to dislike

And it was a bit rough for snorkeling. The jungle meets the sea at high tide, narrow otherwise. Walk down to Punta Uva by the river mouth for a better swimming area with more protection from waves.

Enjoyed walking to this quiet beach with nice place to eat. Very relaxing place. Wonderful terrain. Bring a blue tarp with you to all beaches in Costa Rica. (Keeps any sand flies or ants away.)

Pretty beach, quieter than Puerto Veijo. A couple of good restaurants nearby. Part of a great coastal walk.

Or maybe it was high tide??? There was a little hike on a jungle path to get to the beach. If you slip, you could fall into what looks like a fresh water run off/drainage ditch...all part of the adventure! Gorgeous water & rocks for treasure hunting.

You could start a hiking tour from the Playa Negra in Puerto Viejo, pass by the long sandy beach of Cocles and end up at Chiquita. If the sea is calm it is a nice place for snorkeling. Swimming seems to be safer than in Cocles, where the surfers go when the red flags are on the beach

We were fortunate in that our guide took us by boat to an area of the reef that is not often used for snorkelling and it was awesome. The reef had so many different types of coral and the fish were abundant. Some of the best snorkelling we have ever done!

I have been to Atlantic Coast beaches, Pacific Coast beaches, some Gulf of Mexico beaches & none of them compare to being on the Caribbean beach in Costa Rica. Words cannot describe how it feels to sit there, relax & taking such a beautiful experience in.

Isolated, and spectacular strip of beach and jungle. Love it. Liked surfing here too.Beach horse rides and massages available. The snorkeling is outstanding.

If you surf don't miss this one ! The waves are great Go to the surf beach also next door in Cocles. All the beaches from Cocles down to Punta Mona are a must see if you come to Talamanca

Didn't spend much time here as the place was a little rocky for my taste but it appeard to be a lol secluded at that time I went there. Saw a few people hangin around. This could a great place if you would like to feel isolated. The ramp that takes here from the main rain could be a little tricky as it weaves through some trees, a couple of residence and a private property area. Just follow up the path and it should take you there in a few minutes.

Visited here from a recommendation I found on Wiki Travel. I was the only person on the beach. Calm waves, silky sand and good shade from palm trees. A little tricky to find, it's only a little path off the road, but grab a map and set out on your bike. It's worth it 100%
