This is a fun/cheap activate for families visiting Santa Teresa. Rent some snorkel gear and wait for low tide. The rocks start to poke out of the surf and you can float and explore for hours! We saw many variety of fish, sea stars and eels! Our 9 and 12 year olds loved it - as did we. Very secluded. Rarely saw more than 5 people around us for the 3 hours we spent there. Make sure you have a 4 wheel drive to get there!

We've stayed in Santa Teresa for a few years in a row, however, when wanting to take beginners surfing lessons we were encouraged to go to Playa Hermosa, where the surf was better for beginners. While we love Santa Teresa's beach, and in comparison to so many others it a beauty, Playa Hermosa has it's own beauty for sure. It's much less steep than ST, fewer rocks, and the big thing is that I believe it's someway part of Cabo Blanco park. This I believe since I saw a sign about not taking shells and such. The result is that there's many few people than at ST, no houses/inns just in back of all those coconut trees, and it's truly unspoiled. If the sun is too hot, then there are countless trees to lay under stretching the length of the beach. There are no down sides to this beach except I didn't notice any restrooms, and you will need to pack water and food. Can't wait to visit again next year.

Playa Hermosa is a great beach and has nice rolling waves to surf in. It is surrounded by nature and it is peaceful and not at all crowded. Bring your own water, towels and such as there is nothing but sand and surf. You can rent a surfboard for $10 just down the road. They also have rash guards for you if you ask. Fun times.

Huge beach, very beautiful view, no infrastructure available and very roots environment. Family place and small waves for any age.

easier to learn than in Santa Teresa. Can be a few too many people at times - go out with a good instructor to start (Costa Rica Surf and SUP).

Gorgeous beach , quiet, usually not a lot of people . Tide pools , I would recommend as a relaxing , calm beach with few amenities so bring your own stuff.

Great beach to enjoy by couple, family or friends. Beautiful view, trees, white sand. The ocean is great for bathing, even if you have young kids.Best beach in the region of Mal Pais - Santa Teresa

Playa Hermosa, on the Nicoya Peninsula just north of Playa Santa Teresa and the town of Santa Teresa itself, is a flat sand beach about 1-1/2 km long, bounded at each end by volcanic rock fall. It is perfect for running, walking, general beachcombing (but don't attempt to bring home any souvenirs - most everything is protected.) It has a great surf break for beginners. It is almost never crowded, and is very peaceful. I love to walk there just after dawn - daybreak is often spectacular! Watch the tides, though - you can't walk around those rock outcroppings in high tide, although you can walk or run the length of the beach itself with no trouble.

Long stretch of beach the is pristine with excellent waves for beginners. Not easy to reach so pretty quiet compared to the beaches closer to Santa Teresa.

Great beach for surfing but it can get crowded at peak times; especially high tide. Great spot to learn to surf.

We spent a day on playa Hermosa when we stayed in Santa Teresa, because waves are easier at this beach. It was good fun, with long rides. The beach itself is absolutely beautiful and feels like a dream: a tropical deserted beach. Ok, there are some people, but really not many. Palm trees provide shade, altough please be careful for coconuts falling down. From Santa Teresa the beach is quite far. You need to take a taxi which costs about 15 dollars.

Beautiful beach with great waves. Loved the friendliness of the locals. Try the fresh coconut water!

Playa Hermosa is totally gorgeous. It's rustic, so come with water, sunscreen, etc. But if you're just looking for a scenic beach without a lot of people, this is the place. We watched 2 sunsets here while surfing/hanging on the beach. If you are beginner surfers, this beach is much more manageable than Playa Santa Teresa. If you're looking for lessons, Quique is your guy. He's awesome and a great instructor! In fact, we went back for a second lesson with him we enjoyed it so much.

It's not called Hermosa for nothing - unforgettable epic sunsets and long walks along the shore and body crashing waves! We loved this beach!

Our family love this beach. Huge beach with beautiful soft sand. The waves were great for surfing for beginners. We love it there and will be back very soon!
