There were about 8 or 9 youngsters when I did the tour, so the instructor played it up as more fun than educational, although adults did get to learn and do, too. We finished by making our own chocolate bar with whatever goodies we chose to mix in. I had to come back 2 hrs later, after it had set up. It was very tasty. If you are looking for Hershey stuff, forget it, this is without all the junk added in by candy makers. I didn't buy any of their candy bar because it was hard enough to keep mine from melting. And besides, is there anything in Nicaragua that the Pella family doesn't own?
We were attracted by the name and after sampling some of their chocolate liquors we bought a bottle of delivious and unusual chovolate coffee liquor taht has quite a kick. They also had a chocolate chili and chocolate ginger.
I liked this from the educational point of view.Taste testing was nice - palate not so used to it though lolObserved a class going on - looked like fun.Thought the price of a chocolate bar was ridiculous.Did not realize it was other things (spa, hotel etc) - read other reviews and learnt that.
This was a fun way to spend sometime while we were in Granada!! We laughed so much! Our instructor was so informative & had such a great personality!! When we come back to Granada we will come to visit again! Unfortunately our chocolate was lost (we took the last class of the day- we came back late the next day to pick out chocolate up...we should have waited the hour after the class to get it). We did get a few chocolate bars to take home with us! I do recommend this class!
Brilliant fun and impossible not to enjoy. We made 3 different chocolate drinks from beans that we roasted ourselves and then cast bars from some pre-prepared melt. Left the bars in the fridge and went back after an hour to collect.
We enjoyed an afternoon here, myself with a facial and pedicure and my husband with a massage. The treatments were OK, not outstanding, but fine for the price (very reasonable). We then enjoyed the pool for the rest of the afternoon. It's a great oasis in the hot streets of Granada. The ducks in the pool are super cute too!
Learn that it's more than a milk chocolate bar. I enjoyed the class: seeing the cacao tree, preparing and consuming 3 types of chocolate drinks, and the instructor, Marcelo. Tho' he speaks good English I opted to do the class in Spanish, which was good practice. We spent the day there, much of it at the large pool. I recommend El Museo de Chocolate- a lot!
The lessons in chocolate making was interesting. The staff who showed us the process on how to make chocolate was funny and very friendly. The chocolates are quite expensive.
My wife and I truly enjoyed learning about the cacao bean and iit's history in Nicaragua. We enjoyed the hands on class of making our own chocolate drinks and chocolate bar to take home.Very will done. Stress free, and truly enjoyable. Thanks Kenny for the great class!
Not terribly exciting but informative. Real chocolate is very boring to taste. Very educational but not the high point of any day in Granada
I have been with my girlfreind for the chocolate class. We were only 2, so it was like a "private" class.Kenny, the instructor was Awesome!! He had a real interesting explanations, and he make sure that there won't be any boring second. We made 2 drinks and chocolate bar.. very recomended.Thank you kenny!!
It was fun making my own chocolate bar and adding my own ingredients. The only downside was the price. We paid about $20 for the class and chocolate bar.
We were a bit confused when we arrived. It was a Spa, Museum, gift shop, hotel, pool, and a ton of bizarre art on the walls but....a very nice lady who worked there lead us in the right direction and we were able to book a Chocolate making tour. I was a bit skeptical at first but turns out my husband and I had such a great time, it was so much fun. Not sure if it was because we had kids in our group or not but the guide made everything fun and exciting, I learned a ton at the same time. We left smiling from ear to ear and 2 hours later we were able to collect our home made chocolate bars. I highly recommend this to anyone.
Stopped here for a bit while walking around Granada. Thought it was a museum and hoped to see a presentation on chocolate. Just received samples of 3 different chocolates. Different texture than American chocolate, more gritty, but still tasty. Also had a cold chocolate drink which was gritty as well, still refreshing because it was a warm day. Beautiful setting in the courtyard, sat down to enjoy my drink. It's nice for a stop, but don't expect to see anything other than a gift shop an a drink bar (limited food menu as well)
This was FUN! If you're not in the mood to have fun, don't go. Our teacher, Kenny, was energetic and cracking jokes. He had us singing and dancing. He was great at teaching us about chocolate, and knew a lot. It is basic information, but things most of us don't know (if you're looking for a professor in Chocolate studies, this isn't for you). I really liked that we actually MADE chocolate. We learned about and made drinks that are based in cocao, we toasted cacao beans, ground chocolate, added flavors, learned the differences between dark and milk chocolate (did you know that a lot of the fat that is processed out of the chocolate is sold for suppositories???!!!).He was also very open to questions, and let us be creative. This is a great place to go if you're tired of hiking and site-seeing, and want an activity. I think this would be great for kids. You even get a certificate afterwards. I think I have spent $21 on a lot WORSE things before!
