The significance to me was two fold. It spans the Canal but also is a gateway that leads from South America to North America. Part of a contiguous road of over 4,000 miles.
Its one of the most important bridges in the world but I would not consider it a tourist attraction at all.
This bridge can be seen from most places around Panama. It is a beautiful landmark. we did not cross the bridge itself, there was too much traffic.
Travelling to the city for the past couple of years was a bit of a hastle with the painting of the bridge. Now it seems the work has finally ended. Hurrah!
The age of this bridge is starting to show, the roadway is in need of repair. However, you can appreciate the structure from a side view an if you go to the interior you will probably drive over this bridge.
I didn't walk on it and don't even know if you can but it's visible from most places in Panama. A very cool place to see the bridge as well as the other bridge is at Anacon Point.
One has to cross the bridge and see the entrance to the canal and the new locks being built on the other side, you can also just take a peek at the new bridge too!
it's a bridge not sure how to rate it. I will tell you you can see a lot of the canal from it. I guess it's cool to say you have crossed it so you should if you are there.
We drove over this bridge once. You get good views of the canal when crossing it. It's a nice bridge, a good landmark.
I have been across the Bridge of the Americas a few times in the last few years. It is showing its age, and I hope they are doing all required maintenance to counter the salt air working on the steel. It is a neat thought that this bridge does actually join North and South America since the opening of the Panama Canal. Since 2004 there is also the much prettier cable-stayed Centennial Bridge as well to carry the Pan-American Highway across the canal on the way to Santiago and David. From the top of the bridge you can clearly see the many ships lined up to enter the Canal.
We went over the bridge twice during our time in Panama. This thing is way up in the air so keep your camera ready. The views go on for a long way both up the canal and out to see where the ships are lining up to traverse the canal. There is a chain link fence along both side though so expect to see it in your photos. Still, what pictures you get will reflect where you were and what it looked like. If you are energetic you can hike up on one side but have a cab drop you at the base and pick you up. You don't want to hang around the local neighborhood for safety sake.
Seeing the bridge, crossing over to the other side, and viewing the monument to the Chinese workers is all part of the canal experience.
Nice to see and cross. Great views down thcanal with nice apartments for sale close by. Souvenirs can be purchased from street sellers.
The bridge ober the Panama Canal is very impressive, especially knowing that it was built so many years ago, but allows the ships to pass seamlessly
