To start it is now Havana beach club now which was on TA at one time but has been takeing down for some reason. Any way this is great place away from the masses on west end. We rented a car it was easy to find. The drive way was very rough because they had 15 ins. of rain the day before we got there. Jack the in house chief is the owner of Lionfish Louies which has moved there from the West End location has good food.
Go east to avoid the huge crowds when cruise ships are in or just for a unique and special beach day. The North Shore has the nicest waters and this beach is gorgeous. There have been a lot of changes lately with added safety on the road, a wonderful new restaurant Lion Fish Louie's and good management. Check it out! The waters here are very pristine compared to overused West Bay Beach. Offshore is the largest piece of crystal turquoise water by the reef you will see.
We found this place with the help of a local guide just outside of the port. We absolutely loved the place. The beach was very nice and the food was great. The only thing that got us was the sand flies. Take bug spray. IT is thanks to this little jem that we are planning our family vacation next year to Roatan and plan on being close to this resort.
The Bad:You have to pay $5 to get into the beach, then walk a long distance to get to the location. The beach is very shallow and full of grass. Not good for snorkeling. Reef is not close to the beach it is several hundred yards away. Drinks are the most expensive on the island. The shore is full of sharp coral and shells. The Good:There is a new pavilion and bar with live music. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Plenty of shade from cabanas and the sandy beach away from the shore is groomed and pleasant.
Us cruisers LIVE in a wonderful world in which of course never think that something so terrible is going to happen...but if that's the case why go on a cruise ship??? Every port if call is full of robbers, every port of call has violence and I'm sure is not as safe as they make it to be in the brouchures. Do your homework, track the business. Every business has a bad day. Possibly that day was Christophers, but based on their reviews, this company goes far beyond everyone's expectatives. They rank 5 stars among many cruisers. Everyone that has gone and used them speak wonders, so are we really gonna penalized the company for having one issue after 15 yrs in the business?...I'm worried but having the owner called me personally to assure me what the security on port is doing, what is his company doing to protect their cruisers, gives me somehow a peace of mind. We live in US when sometimes going to the movies has ended up with many of us killed, i live on Miami, considered the #2 most violent city in the states. Again do the homework, hope for another "bad" day not to happen and try to enjoy. and I'm really sorry for the family that went thru this horrible experience. Blessings to all.
I found this beach via Tripadvisor when looking for a non-commercialized beach on Roatan and found this little piece of paradise! Juan our driver took us here and we had it to ourselves! The guys walked over to the little island and snorkeled. They jumped off the pier and we watched a local climb a tree and get us coconuts, open them for us to drink the fresh water out and then enjoy the meat of the coconut! Fabulous! They are expanding their bar area so there were workers there but they did not bother us one bit. It was so beautiful there.Would highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to get off the beaten track and have a little quiet time. And get Juan to drive you around to sight see, he was wonderful! The only tiny little draw back…sand flies…they bite, leave a red mark and were gone the next day…I used bug spray but I think not the right kind..need more of a mosquito type spray. If you are in the water most of the time, then you do not have to worry about them. And they do not itch…good thing too.Check this place out!
Pretty beach. Totally not safe! ! We were taken there by on an excursion that we booked through shore excursions.com. The local provider was Christopher tours. After eco tour and zip lining at South Side....which was awesome, we were taken to Palm Beach. There was only one other family there which see seemed strange. We left after about an hours because we were earen up with bug bites. On the drive way out of the resort 2 men shot out the tire of our cab. They held a gun to my sons head and a knife to my other sons throat. They took everything we had... .money, debit card ,3 cell phones ,2 cameras and our clothes. Don't go!!!
Thanks to previous reviewers, we found this gem...a complete hideaway from the tourists and crowds. We arranged transportation ahead of time through excursionsroatan.com...totally worth the $25pp...the driver tells you a little about the island, its history, people and culture. He will do whatever you want (though offer some advice). We just wanted to go to the scenic overlooks and the beach club...no shopping. Our driver tried to talk us into going to West Bay, complaining about beach flies at Palm Beach. We are glad we stuck to our guns. Cesar was a consummate host, serving us great food and beverage...and lending us bug spray. It ended up being fine...I did not go in the water and had no bites...our 7yo did play in the sand at the water line and got bit, but they weren't itchy, so she wasn't bothered. Otherwise, the beach was huge, and we practically had the place to ourselves. The little island was an easy swim over...though it is too rocky to walk on without water shoes/socks (which we didn't have). Husband and daughter had fun jumping off the long pier, too. Everything was clean -- beach, pier, water, restaurant, bathrooms... We have absolutely NO complaints and would definitely come here again.
We found this resort totally by accident in November 2013. After 2 stops (Cozumel and Belize) on our cruise we were getting tired of all the crowds, trinkets, and lines. We were rescued by a young man named Shorne after missing our scheduled excursion. He offered to take us zip lining and to the beach afterwards. This is the resort he delivered us to...and I am forever grateful. White sand beaches, snorkeling, incredible views, a bar/restaurant..oh and by the way (large portions and almost everything $5.00-$8.00) lots of lounge chairs, cabanas, palm trees, and an entertaining non-pushy staff. (Dominos are the "in" thing!) This is a relaxed uncrowded picture of true "island life" that should not be missed. We all arrived back from our visit to Palm Beach convinced that we had spent the day in paradise! This was truely the highlight of our cruise thanks to Shorne, Carren, and Cesar!
My dad lived here for over 10 years and spoke Spanish even thou a lot of people speak English. When we pulled in Sept 24th/13 there was a few ships in thousands of people heading to the west end beaches. Also the complex you arrive at was built by Carnival for 64 million and the taxies, vans, attraction and shops are pay high rates to be there shopping there only helps big business not the lil guy. They are very expensive the trips on the ships and the taxies when your in that complex walk to your left follow the side walk out down hill out gates and you will see a lot of harding working taxi and vans more then half the cost. We were priced 200 $ for day for a van for 6 family and outside 95 to 100$ for the day. Head not to the west beaches but to the east Palm beach is a private beach 10$ pp to enter are cabby we bought pops for and its a screen saver will blow your mind. We had whole place to our selves 2-5$ beers giant home made pina coladas and assorted dribks cheap 6-7$ amazing food counch fritters freash salsads burgers home made cheap. Sweet ladys also 25$ massage on beach hubby paid 40$ for hour. He was worried about sun burn she used pure coconut oil never hurt he was very relaxed.5$ to rent snorkel gear or bring your own 10$ pp and they will take you out to reef to snorkel. rent a kayak or water trike for 5 per hour. Want to go back amazing place there is another place near it called Turquoise beach with jet skis. Info for Palm Beach, Johnson Bight, English Tel 96510473 Spanish number 96059336 bar 32228804,resteraunt 33419749Clean rest rooms free use of beach chairs parking and showers.Orlando was our driver orlandoandino64@yahoo.esLike I said things are much cheaper and safer out side of complex no issues with safety.Much nicer then scary dirty Belize hookers fighting outside port.
Slide and water activities and stepping across water to little island are great fun for kids. Very good food! A must visit spot for a relaxed afternoon.
Loved Palm Beach Resort. Beautiful. Quiet. Secluded. Post-card Picture perfect!! Cesar, the guy who was running the bar/grill, will hook you up with some cool drinks and fresh fish.
This is not your average tourist beach. It was a short drive from the port in kind of a remote location. It is a nice large beach with beautiful water, palm thatch huts to sit under, a nearby reef for snorkeling, a little key (island) that you can literally walk through the water to reach, a pier to dive off, a couple of huts that serve food and drink at decent prices, and basic restroom accomadations. Nothing fancy but still a nice quiet location that can fulfill all your needs if you want a quiet day on the beach. There were probably only about 15 people there even thought there were 2 cruise ships in port with over 6000 passengers.
I don't know how people gave good reviews for this place. It was by far the worst beach I have seen in roatan. I would never recommend it.
If your idea of a paradise is a secluded, clean, white sand beach with palm trees and crystal clear water, then you have to go to the Palm Beach for at least a day! Absolutely stunning and not “touristy”! There is a small little key where you can walk from the shore, really cute. There were maybe between 20-30 people on the beach, most of us from Media Luna Resort, plus two local families. For $15/pp/day you get the transportation from Media Luna (one drink and hot dog included), the drive is max 10 minutes. The bus picked us up at 10 am and we returned around 4 o’clock. There are two cafes at the beach; the price is reasonable 2 beers for $5. Bathroom facilities are clean and functional. From the beach, we went for an open water snorkeling for $10 pp, really cool to go far in the ocean and snorkel around the reef, however, the ocean current was really strong that day and I didn’t feel very comfortable as it was pulling you farther away if you didn’t have flippers. Put a lot of sunscreen if you decide to go snorkeling, I got burned first time after so many years; on the boat the sun is very strong.
