First and foremost, there is an elephant 'confined' in a small area surrounded by sandsacks at the side of the entrance... I am not so comfortable tho' they feed him and such but ... I felt that the space is limited for our dear big friend. We had the luxury of joining the temple's prayers time and were blessed by the priests, so it has been a wonderful experience. The temple is under reno, so it's kinda messy and dusty at that moment.
Arulmigu Manakula Vinayagar Temple, located near the beach area is Ganesh Temple. Nice place to visit. One of the famous ancient temple in Pondicherry.
i didn't give full rating for this temple since lot of renovation works are happening inside the temple makes you uncomfortable
This shrine is dedicated to Lord Ganesh and existed even at the time of the arrival of the French in Puducherry in 1673. The temple is located at the junction of Jawaharlal Nehru Street and Manakula Vinayakar Street.
One of the famous ancient temple is in Puducherry "The Manakula Vinayagar Temple" The temple is 400 meters West of Bay of Bengal Sea. Near By Aurobindo Ashram & Bakery. DHARSHANAM TIMINGS - Morning 5.45 am to 12.30 pm & Evening 4.00 pm to 09.30 pm.The Mega festival of Lord Manakula Vinayagar is celebrated every year for 24 days during the month of August and September. take care about crowd. overall okay.
I also visited this temple at eve of 24.2.2015. This is a big and old temple of Lord Shiva. However there r many other small temple in campus. The temple have a big entrance and coloured gate.
Its a very old temple with lot of idols made of gold. It is always crowded so make sure you go early. Also, there is a time limit for the temple. Do inquire before you go there. Also, there is a small market outside the temple which sells some beautiful handicraft items but little expensive.
Must visit temple in Pondy..... Its near the rock beach and aurobindo ashram......The Temple is always crowded and will take at least 30 mins for the darshanam of the Lord Ganesh......Near to temple there is Aurobindo Ashram Bakery where you get good kaju sweets and biscuits......
This temple is located very close to Mahatma gandhi beach, and Rishi Aurobindo Ashram.Temple has a nice approach. An elephant stands outside the temple, which is a fun sight if you have kids with you.Worth a visit if you are in pondicherry.
It is currenty undergoing a major restoration which has been in progress for a year. We're told that the work will be complete by early April 2015. However, don't be put off as you can see the craftsmen and artists at work above your head - great to see how the temple is decorated.
Visit this temple if and only if you are a Temple-trotter and a Ganesha afficionado. If you have time crunch, absolutely no need to include this temple in your itinerary. But the surrounding area just outside the temple is very neat and clean as the temple is in the French part of Pondicherry and has a sophisticated restaurant inside the charming hotel Du Parc.
We visited the temple during our stay in Pondi.Even though they are busy with renovations(which I am sure will look great when finished),there wasn't a sense of being rushed through. As a non Indian I was allowed to take darshan and circumambulate the deity.
This temple seems a contradiction in the French part of the city but people nevertheless keep it on the itinerary to seek ganesha blessings either after or before the visit to Ashram.Crowded and small but nevertheless a spiritual upliftment is certain after the darshan.
It is one of the oldest Ganesha temple, but looks like another temple. Crowded. When we went there it was getting renovated and hence lot of dust around. The Ganesha statue was very beautiful.
All around this temple you could feel the overpowering aura of everything Francais. We weren't disappointed at the temple administration to control and contain the holiday rush. The footwear caretaker outside the gate even commented that the slip-ons I was wearing were the best he had seen that day!!
