International travelers come to this place but this is in shambles ...why and how would they have a better picture about our society. They have the five rathas there which are places of interest around mahabalipuram. sadly they are not maintained well and if you one looking for architecture, you would be sad to see the condition of these places - too commercial
Right at the shore, this temple is a glorious reminder of ancient times. Sadly, the sea air has eroded many features, but the temple is still functioning and cared for lovingly. A quick and satisfying visit, and easy to recommend.
Though the approach is quite messy and parking bit tough. The temple is small but what an idea to have a temple carved right at the shore. A one off experience and you could then just slip to the beach and enjoy.
Nicely built and maintained Temple with a great view. It was worth spending time and gives peace . in the Temple complex there is large garden space to sit and relax.
It's an old temple with no rituals or puja- is one othe National Heritage places of visit. It's all carved from stone !!
Charges are Rs 250 for Indian and foreigner 750... This place comes in one the National Heritage list. Hence its costly. Very old temple (NO puja done). its ancient rock cut temple...Goverment has maintained it properly with big space around - Garden.Sad part NO toliet near to the temple. Toliet is near the main gate and temple is around more than 700mtrs away.Be prepared before entring.
Lovely setting and well worth seeing. Best seen after the other temples to put the history into perspective. Off the point the waves crash over the ruins of other temples lost to the sea.
Visited here two days back. Its a small temple of historical significance. Protected by ASI. But the surrounding area outside the protective walls is nasty and filled with shops a ignorant fools.
Why pay 250rps when the other temples in town are nicer?Shore temple sculptures are all weather damaged!
The history and the architecture of the temple with figures of Lord Shiva, Parvati, Nandi and Ganesh and sleeping statue of Lord Vishnu. It is one of the protected site under ASI.
We visited the Shore temple just after sunrise which was the perfect time as the light was good for photography and all was peaceful. I really enjoyed just sitting and absorbing the atmosphere of this 1200 year old temple with the sound of the sea in the background.
Really great scenic beauty if you visit around evening time.Visible across the beach side as it projects more from the sea shore.A Must visit place if one goes to Mahabalipuram in Chennai.
overlooking the Bay of Bengal on the point near to the town. Trees and foliage surrounding the site were badly damaged during the tsunami as was a large area of south and south east AsiaNot to be missed !
Awesome feel once you reach this place..Temple is almost connected to the sea both physically and spiritually..Great view & another must visit place !!:)
