Like most tourists, after a few trips you become wary of tourist traps for handcrafts etc. But,I found Ningle Terrace is an exception to the rule. It is well presented and each cottage has a different offering by the resident artisan. Obviously, not all styles were attractive to me but some were and were very good.Overall it was a pleasant surprise and a nice way to spend a couple of hours away from the ski slopes. Certainly gave me something way better than a "I Love Japan" T Shirt for my extended family at home!

20+ artisan boutiques in little chalets, Ningle Terrace sets the backdrop for several Japanese dramas. It's kind of romantic when lit at night. There are unique souvenirs and gifts instead of the mass-produced-made-in-china tourist junk. I think it's worth a visit.

These are very lovely wooden houses just outside New Prince Hotel. Every house is in fact a little 'home' of designers' hand made items. The merchandise include hand made keyrings, paintings, handbags, leather products, accessories. Each house has its own 'theme', such as snowflakes, hand made leathers, drawings, etc.The things they sell are quite expensive, still I have bought some as souvenirs, not just because I like them, but because I want to send my little encouragements to those original designers and shop owners.Things to note;- they open from 12 noon to 8 or 9pm- photographs 'inside' the shops are NOT permitted- there is a cafe with lovely chairs, cushions and hand made cookies- please support those designers by grabbing some items if you got the chance to visit this fairy tales houses

Our family was staying at the New Furano Prince Hotel and the Ningle forest in in the same compound. We were really lucky as it snowed non-stop for 3 days and the experience of walking into the woods and the path with these beautiful shops was really magical. Every store is different with hand made crafts, not cheap but special in their own way and definitely a great gift or keep sake, we bought a door chime made of wood, rope and glass. There is a small coffee shop that serves good coffee and great pastry like cream puffs and cakes, much better coffee than the bakery(although bread here is good) that is connected to the hotel. The lightly at dusk and night makes the terrace and stores so charming and romantic, I really love the feel and overall ambience of this wonderful place.further down the path is the other famous coffee house with excellent stew and coffee as well as the bar that calls themselves "for miserable smokers".Extremely romantic walk in winter and great stores to browse/buy the hand made crafts.

You don't have to especially go to Ningle Terrace but if you are around the vicinity, you can go for a look. There are many tiny little cottages selling handicrafts. There is a little coffee shop right in the middle of Ningle Terrace that serves hot beverages and pastries. Lovely place to get out of the cold.

Ningle Terrace is a collection of quaint wooden cottages in the forest. Each cottage is a shop selling a particular type of craft. The whole atmosphere is magical and there always seems to be a collection of huge mushrooms at each corner of the forest and boardwalk. Unless you stay at the hotel, this place itself is not good reason enough to travel all the way in (250 yen bus fare, 20 minutes each way with one bus running every 1+ hour). I ended up at Ningle Terrace because I was trying to pass the time while waiting for the bus after realising that the Garden of Wind was a waste of time but was unable to leave immediately due to the infrequent buses out of this place.

do visit this single stand alone shops and view the hand crafted souvenirs. must have time to visit each hut and do go only when its not snowing.

When we visited in late September it was very quite and we must have been lucky to avoid the tour buses. We really enjoyed strolling on the wooded walkways and even off the tracks a bit to take a closer look at the 'hidden' attractions in the forest. The products they sell here are very unique and we loved talking the to shop keepers who are usually the person who made the products. There was one store that sold/made very intricate mini fans/windmills. We would have loved to purchase one but they were out of our budget and we didn't think it would survive our road trip around Hokkaido.

This is a nice and beautiful place with lots of good shops. However, if you are traveling with young kids, you will not be able to enjoy the good atmosphere here as you will worry about breaking those beautiful and expensive things..

There are many wooden crafts shops built in the forest. It was an enchanting walk along the wooden platform , with trees all around. However, the crafted souvenirs on sale at the shops are not cheap.

PelleaL

Attractive wooden huts in the forest near the Prince Hotel. The craft lovers would have loved it!However, a little too artificial to us. The outdoor Furano is more charming to us.
