Walking at the night market and was pulled by this music coming from the Boys Blue Bar. This is the place where they play great music. Monday is open mic and it gets crazy fun! All those seriously talented musicians and then the frustrated ones all together is just awesome! Definitely a must-experience when you go to Chiang Mai.
Stumbled upon this place on my last trip to Chiang Mai and still play back the great vibes in my head. It's easy to find... go to the inside portion of the night bazaar and follow the sound of great guitar licks played with real passion. From Hendrix to John Lee Hooker to Carlos Santanait all gets done with respect and a wide Asian smile. The drinks are reasonable, the atmosphere is pleasant and yes... there is smoking but unlike others have reported it is a bit annoying but the fab music makes up for it. There is a tip box in front of the stage and I encourage you to throw in a respectable amount of baht as the entertainment is first class. The crowd is multicultural and the staff is attentive but not pushy. I don't care where you're from... If you enjoy great blues played by some guys who love music and aren't afraid to show it.. DO NOT miss an evening at this place. Khob Khun Krub Boy - You and the guys Rock!!
Very good Bands and Good Beer.... The Service is very friendly :-) Is in the middle of the Night-Market, which is beautiful as well.
Been here many times and know Boy, the main guitarist and owner, quite well. It's an open air mezzanine bar in the enclosed night bazaar of Chiang Mai. It's a bit awkward to find but if you get into the enclosed area of the night bazaar, just follow the sound of the music. Entrance is free, no food is available and the beers cost about 100 baht. Boy and his band are great and play all evening, every evening, along with other guest musicians whenever they want to jam. The place is often very busy with tourists and local foreigners in the high tourist season. Most of the seats are a bit uncomfortable but tolerable when you listen to the great blues music from Boy. If I compare this with the other great live blues venue of the Brasserie, I would say the Brasserie is more convenient to find, provides food and had much better and more varied live blues music (in fact I understand that Took at Brasserie is the uncle of Boy and taught him to play the guitar) but Boy Blues bar is more popular, more open air and has a great atmosphere. Try both - you will not regret it.
If you smoke and/or enjoy second-hand smoke, this is the place for you. Almost everyone smokes, and although the place is on the 2nd floor without walls, the accumulated smoke is overwhelming. I think it would be great if management can allocate a spot for non-smokers, but that is a long shot. Having said that, the music can vary from very good to terrible. Boy and the instrumental musicians are very good, but the vocals by some during the open-mic is the worst at its best. The house band is good, the service is good, and Boy (the owner) seems like a truly nice and caring person with a ton of tolerance and a perpetual smile adoring his face. So, if you are not bothered by smoke, you should definitely give it a try, especially on a Monday during open-mic and experience what could be a great musical evening sprinkled with some frustrated vocalists who should be constrained to singing in the shower.
If your in Chiang Mai you have to visit this bar. Awesome atmosphere, staff n music. Open mic on monday nights is a great show...
Just go you won't regret it.We are back again in Chiang Mai in June and will be there.Drinks good price.
Boy is a legend ... this place is amazing! We stumbled across this gem on a Monday night, open mic night and we loved every minute of it. All the acts were pretty damn good and the atmosphere was buzzing. If you are in Chaing Mai and love live music give this place a go. It wont disappoint.
These guys know their blues. So much local talent in CM....wow !!This was our last evening in CM. Last nite we'd been to Roots Rock and Reggae and came back sufficiently impressed with the 2 bands that were playing. The first one Croissant reproduced Marley and Reggae almost to perfection. The 2nd band was also amazing with 2 horn trumpets at their best and a killer bass.So we went to this place not expecting anything great.....and " boy " we were shocked with the quality of blues ( Chicago blues ) the 3 piece band dished out !!Needless to say the mixed crowd is friendly. If you like blues, dont miss this place !!
Was recently invited here by one of the locals for the Monday night jam session. Run by Boy and frequented by local expats the line up continually changes as they each join in belting out a few songs. What a great place that I have never come across before. My intention was to go for an hour or two and I ended up staying till closing. For anyone into blues music I can recommend the place.
Its when the open mic session happens. Unbelievably good spontaneous music in a chilled atmosphere. Great place for some good blues, a few drinks and some chats !
Great place for some genuine live Blues and Rock from the seventies and beyond. Mixed crowd from young till elderly. A special jam session every Monday, quite an experience ;-)Boy is the soul of the place and he knows how to engage the crowd, nice lad. Located near Night Bazaar on a roof top terrace it's an awfully cool and pleasant place. Reasonable priced drinks available. You better check it out ;-)
Great music and atmosphere listening to Boy an d his band jamming in this cool bar. It's a fun location upstairs above the market.
Boy and his pals had a right jam and made us feel like the family, Pink Floyd covers were pretty special as was Jimmy Hendrix, we were last to leave I was gutted we only found this gem on our last night, we will be back tho! Cheers guys!
