Vera falls is simply stunning. It is located in the municipality of Malinao, Albay and not in Legaspi City as reported by Trip Advisor. Tabaco City is the best jump off point to get to the pristine and fresh waters of Vera Falls. From Tabaco, hire a motorbike (habal-habal) for 250 pesos two-way good for two passengers. The motorbikes are ubiquitous in Tabaco but you can get one easily in tricycle terminals. You can opt to hire a van if you are in a big group but this spoils the thrill and adventure on the way to the falls. The road going to the falls offers majestic views of towering Mount Mayon and the surrounding sprawling hills and mountains. You can also see families local nipa huts preparing abaca for handicrafts or basket weaves. Don't forget to wave to the children and return their smiles. There is no restaurant in Vera Falls so best to bring your own food (and don't forget to bring your refuse back with you).Be prepared for the chilly waters and slippery rocks when taking a dip. You can opt to relax in one of the whirpools downstream or simply marvel the view of the falls upstream.
Admittedly I was at Victoria Falls in October and I've seen falls such as Dettifoss in Ísland! So, although not underwhelmed by visiting Vera Falls it's not massive, the water is clear, beautiful & refreshing. It proved hard to find; if you turn off left at the church in Tabaco, then maybe 6k down that road turn right towards 'Malinao Rehabilitation Centre', bear left at the school, then keep the river on your left, over where the road has eroded. At the next village turn left, there's a basketball court right at the junction! Then another 2km and you're at the car park. We were the only foreigners there and the guy who volunteers collecting donations for maintenance was a bit too eager to chat to us, bless him, and he stunk of booze! All in all worth the 1.5hr trip from near Legazpi.
the only problem here is that its too rock i hope the will put some sort of bride to get to the falls from the cottage its a bit dangerous specially when its too slippery you might hit you head on the rocks
Cooling down here is just perfect, staying in Tabaco, rented a bike and set out on the way. Try and ensure your driver knows exactly Where to go as they will be inclined to say yes regardless. The journey is mostly paved (a wide foot path in many places), however there are some unsealed sections (defiantly no cars). On arrival you will be amazed by the size of the car park in the middle of nowhere. The stairs are in good condition and easy to use, it is however for those happy to exercise and not for those who may struggle with stairs. On arrival you will be amazed the falls are beautiful and though the water is cold, once you are in it is comfortable and when you swim out to the falls the water is warm.We did not stay long enough for food however there is no store so bring some food and drink if you think may want some.Camping is ok here and even encouraged by the caretaker, so if you are a camper this is a definite opportunity and enjoy the location.
This place is good if you are up for adventure. It is isolated and private but be prepared for a bit of a walk down and up the hill. The in-charge was very polite and accommodating, he provided us everything we need. The washroom and all the area within the vicinity of the falls were clean and well-maintained. The only thing is that there is only 1 cottage to put your things but being in an isolated area it should be expected. If you wanted to stay overnight, you should bring some mosquito repellent.. Place is free though but we gave some tips to the in-charge for his kindness, politeness and generosity in letting us use the facilities (e.g Loo).
A foreigner needs to get hooked up with some locals first and then they will take you to Vera Falls. There's no bus to take you there. A taxi is too expensive and it defeats the best part of the adventure…getting there is half the fun. Hang out on Legazpi Boulevard by the bike rental hut and a group of locals will ride with you to Vera Falls. The roads are not too busy and they are in good shape. The place is very well kept and clean. It's like stepping into an oil painting of a tropical paradise. Nothing is fake here. Bucket list item that you need to see if you are in Legazpi. It will cost you $.50 cents to visit this gorgeous place. It is off the beaten path. I'll be honest…you need to be somewhat fit…say…3 out of 5 if you want to enjoy this. Not for the elderly, unfit, disabled or chronically ill.
The water is very cold. The place is well maintained and path/road going to the falls is cemented already. Going to the falls is ok, getting back could be a challenge. Water is clear and clean. Good experience!
This was a nice surprise and our guide took us to the less popular falls. Vera Falls actually has a few bodies of water in that area, according to our guide. The one we went too was more private and it was just our group plus another one. There was a Php 20 entrance fee per visitor and the cottage was around Php 100 to rent out. We didn't eat here and there was no comfort rooms around so don't expect to be able to shower after you take a dip. There were just make shift dressing room areas. Water was refreshing and we got a few picture opportunities around.
Firstly make sure your driver knows where it is as it is a little off the beaten track and takes at least an hour from Legaspi Secondly make sure your happy to do lil bit of off roading as some of the ' road' is not built to a good standard and can get quite bumpy! Vera falls is a small waterfall that is quite pretty, you may end up feeling that it was a long way to go for but for us it was the adventure getting there that will live in our memory. Worth it if you have a few hours spare.
