Went to mamangal beach, best beach, best sand, best view of mayon, but the accomodation has no mattress, will have to sleep on a bamboo bed. Puraran beach is also good, just farther from the airport. If you want to relax, this is the best place to stay at night. I recommend, go on a day trip early in the morning to mamangal beach, surf at puraran beach in the afternoon, then stay at twin rock resort overnight.I suggest you ask them for the best van/ jeep rental for trips around catanduanes. Never again will we contact Mr. Salvador Tayam, who took adantage of us. Van has no aircon, break pads burned, even asked for extra charge and meal charge during our trip. We just got his number over the internet.
Its white sandy beach & waves of the Pacific Ocean compliment wind surfers. From Baras town, no choice you must hire a tricycle to get to Puraran. P125 one way.
Huge waves. White sand. Cool breeze. But don't forget to bring food! There is a limited supply of clean water and food here so better bring your own meal. Teens, kids, and even adults will definitely enjoy here.
My wife and I enjoyed ourselves immensely at this chunk of paradise. We were traveling with some of her family from the Manila area and carpooled it the entire way. The cottages were sufficient as was the food. A special thank you to Irene and John for taking such good care of us. Even Brian, the four legged guard, managed to find a place in my fond memories. The surfing, snorkeling, and overall natural beauty will not be soon forgotten. Our 4 day stay did not seem long enough, sleeping with the fresh ocean breeze and the sound of the waves lapping on the beech is hard to leave. Puraran is definitely a Majestc place that I will return to, hopefully soon. A fantastic bang for the buck.
This place was for sure one of the best spots ive been to in 9 months of traveling Asia. Super basic rustic huts just off the beach, palm trees everywhere and the best family hospitality around. Irean and her family made us feel at home as soon as we arrived. It as off season and the whole place was empty just one other traveler, we spent a week here and just relaxed taking in the amazing scenery. Phillipe the dog even chilled out with us at our hut and took walks with us up the beach. The waves were huge and i was wishing we could have seen the surfers out there in peak season. I would for sure recommend coming here if your a backpacker or someone who just wants to get away from it all. There is no menue for food when we were there you just eat whatever Irean was cooking that day --So awesome!
We spent 2 days in Puraran after our travels around the Philippines - we couldn't have picked a better place. It was surfer's season, and snorkeling and swimming was a bit tricky because of the big waves but the weather, the beach, the huts, the food, everything was simply perfect.Just prepare for geckos, not only normal ones, but also giant ones. I love geckos, and stalked every night the half-a-meter one that was in our restaurant. No luck there, after the first time it became too shy. But be prepared! The way to Puraran from Virac was also majestic - and adventurous (they said it was too late to go there... we travelled on the roof of a jeepney and took a tricycle in the night lit only by fireflies!) and on the way back we shared a car with surfers from New Zealand that we met there. The staff at the Majestic Puraran Beach Resort where we stayed was simply awesome. Everyone was helpful and nice and friendly and we cannot wait to go back, possibly to relax at the end of another trip to the Philippines. The only thing that disturbed me was the cockfights. Sunday is appearantly cockfight day, and they went on for hours. I guess one should simply respect it as a normal activity for the locals, if not approve of them.Anyway, all in all it was a majestic experience.
we went to puraran beach immediately after the passage of typhoon pedring, altho there were reports of landslide in the area, we still proceeded with the trip no matter what, because as they say, your trip to virac is not complete without going to puraran, and it's TRUE.the place is marvelous, one of a kind beach excellent for swimming and surfing. the waves are beautiful to see and surf.there are 2 restaurants in the area where you an order foods and some accomodations if you want to stay overnight in the area. the trip from virac to puraran r takesabout one hour and its like going up to Baguio.
Puraran Beach accessible from either Virac (75 min) or Baras (20 min) by tricycle or public jeepneys (Virac-Baras). Jeepneys leave at 10am and 2pm from Virac to Baras. We hired a tricyle for P800 including gas for a whole day of touring this part of Catanduanes. Entrance fee is P10. You may have set lunch at Majestic Resort for P150 with 2 viands and rice. Breakfast at an affordable P75. Shower areas are provided by the resort. Beach Huts at P150 for the day. Native huts (fan-cooled)for sleeping cost P600 for the peak season and P400 for Lean season. Amateur surfers flock to Puraran from March-June while professional surfers descend to this place from July-October.
