we went here with the whole family, it was an nice and interesting visit. the cages can bi bigger for some birds, but i think that will be the first thing they do when the have some more money
We had a very informative tour at the Philippine Eagle Centre. I like our tour guide. He also know what angle is best for pictures with the birds. My 2 year old son enjoyed watching the monkeys.
I was amazed by how big the actual monkey eating eagle is. The place is very refreshing and quiet. They have other animals too like deer, monkeys etc. I could've enjoyed the place more if the care takers didn't show special treatment to the foreigners. He took them in a tour around the place and showed some eagle tricks. I mean, all of us paid the entrance fees. :-/
The 100-peso entrance fee is too much for a small place. There are less than 20 bird species including the mighty Philippine eagle, a crocodile, and few mammals. The eagle was caged, a surrounding that do not actually mimic its natural habitat, the other one is tied and was put on display near the entrance for guest to take photos with. Some disturb it for the innocent bird to flip its wings. Since no one was there to educate the guests' malpractice, the bird is always stressed whenever the park opens.
A great venue to learn about our endangered Philippine eagle, a must visit for first time Davao City visitors.
I have not seen a Philippine eagle in my life and it's really different from the picture. I am not aware that it is such a huge bird, I know that it's supposed to be huge, maybe I was just completely overawed. They're majestic, they stand proud and for some reason there's a hint of superiority in the way they look. I can't help but feel proud that it's our national bird!Although, I feel sad for that one Philippine Eagle that was not caged but was tied. There was no cage, it was an open area with a rope as fence. It stands in the center of a platform-like place. I feel bad for him. When we approached the area, it seemed like he knew we are about to watch him because he slowly spread his wings so wide I think it reached 6-7ft.To know that it is endemic to the forests in the Philippines, it is so worth it to pay these powerful birds a visit. How I would love to one day see one of these Philippine Eagles free in the forests of Mount Apo, if ever I get to climb it. I think your trip to Davao would not be complete if you missed to see the Philippine eagles!Additional Info: Location: It is in Calinan, about 45 minutes away from downtown Davao. You can visit this park and pay a visit to Tamayong which is an hour via habal away from Philippine Eagle Center. Fee: The park charges 5php per person for entrance and another 100php when you enter the Phil Eagle Center. It would be nice if there was a guide for every group that enters the center. We were just asked to roam the park by ourselves. A little information here and there while roaming the center would not hurt. I saw a group with a foreigner and they had a guide with them, the staff/guide even took one of the caged white-bellied eagles outside for picture-taking. They were able to hold the eagle up close. I'm not sure if that was allowed but the staff did permit them to take the eagle up close for picture.
Great job in keeping this Center going and in such a good shape. Congratulations to all. If in Davao, this is one place to visit; it is just a few minutes away from Davao. Plan to spend a couple of hours. Make sure you look for one of the care-takers, and ask for a close up picture with one of the eagles; mine is now in my FB profile..
very interesting birds and development of aviaries and people interaction worth the trip out of town to see
The Eagles here were injured unable to compete in the wild. As you walk the trail viewing the birds you get educated on what can be done to help preserve the eagle population. You also see some deer, crocs and owls. When you finish your walk you can donate or buy some souvenirs that help the preserve.
The eagle park is defiantly worth a visit if you are in the area. The eagles are fascinating. I recommend going with a local friend if you have one as they can make the experience more enjoyable.
Very good for nature lovers and even those who are not... just to have a view of the rare Philippine Eagle. If you are coming from Eden Nature Park, the Philippine Eagle Center is a very good side trip.
The eagles and seahawks were interesting. However, some areas were closed off according to our guide. They are trying artificial insemination to increase the species with the monkey eating eagles but the results are still not in. Interesting, but a little rundown ....
The eagles are amazing to see up close and in person. There aren't a lot of them but you can see them close adn outside a cage. The park is nice to walk through and has other things to see. Overall, worth the trip to see an eagle up close and personal. I'd allow a couple of hours there to walk and view things. It's not that large a place. We negotiated a taxi to take us from SM Lanang mall area and wait for us, P1500 plus lunch.
Walking around the Phil Eagle Center feels like you're walking in a rainforest. The air was cool and not humid at all. Our guide Joel was a highschool volunteer and was very surprisingly very knowledgeable and was able to answer our questions. There are other birds and animals in the center but of course the eagles were the rock stars. I just hope that they have bigger cages for the birds.
This was the first time I met a Philippine eagle up close, but I am not so sure I like that the majestic bird was chained to its perch. There has to be a better way to present it. It's a good place to bring the kids so they can learn about what is being done to save the species. It has other species on display, but the enclosures seem cramped and the whole place is in need of some TLC.
