Being entertained by a house' caretaker doesn't make for historical tourism. One's historical knowledge takes much from the person who gives context to the artifacts/ pictures etc. one finds in the supposedly `historical'. When one enters the Macaraeg-Macapagal Ancestral House you'll be awed at the ilustrado elegance of this American inspired architecture. However, I, for one, would doubt the claimed historical significance of some of the embellishments of the house. I would wish a more knowledgeable guide would be handy for questions. And I would wish that this ancestral home be under the care of the government especially the National HIstorical Commission. The legacy of the former two Presidents would be better appreciated by the locals(specially who are clueless of the importance of the achievements of the two presidents-Diosdado and Gloria Macapagal- if you would have a more professional management of this important historically significant house. I am sure that not much is known of the Macapagals and the Macaraegs, specially by this current generation. A visit to this place would be a great opportunity to educate them.
Visit this place to know more of the life of the late President Diosdado Macapagal and her daughter Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. You will learn after the visit/house tour that public figures, just like anybody else in the society, are humans. They too have their sad/happy/weak and strong moments in life. It helped me erase my biases and balance my perspective on the issues thrown against former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.Visit is worthwhile. Have Fun.
This ancestral home is located at the Timoga pools. It is interesting to tour and see photos and artifacts from the family. The furniture is not from the family, but still gives you a good idea of what their family life was like. The house itself is a very nice design and worth going to see. There is no charge for the tour and the grounds and house are kept in very good condition. I had a very good guide and I believe her name is Cristine. There is a seminar hall and guest rooms available for rent.
