We hired a local fishing boat to bring us there for 3000 peso. upon arrival the locals wanted 300p docking fee, I (a foreigner argued about it since even if u own the land on the island the first 7 meters from the sea level is public area) My traveling companions were Filipino tho and they just said to pay it and be happy. After that they wanted 50 peso Entrance fee just to enter the island which we just bluntly refused...Then if we wanted to use the tables that costed 200 peso and last but not least 100 peso for the toilet. so we set up camp in the grass just above the beach. my companions went for a walk to find some fish and came back with a nice big fish and some small ones for just 500 peso, then we rented a grill for another 50p.there was a resturant in a resort but it had no stock what so ever.I read from other reviews that this was an untouched paradise, either that changed in the last few months or they are just laying. We saw a lot of rubbish all over the beach and under the surface of the ocean. The snorkling was very good, and i am a scuba diver so i have a lot to compare with. I would have loved to bring some tanks and dive here. It was strong currents and according to the locals its normal here. So i wouldn't recommend it for beginners or weak swimmers. We took a walk to explore the island and found a shop that sold coffee, while drinking we were talking to the locals and they said its about 1000 people living on this island spread out on about 200 family's.All in all it was a good day, but i was a bit pissed off about the greediness. 100 for a toilet visit, seriously?
Blue ocean with much seen in the drift dive. Indeed an untouched beauty. Mr. Jean Paul, from Dakak Beach Resort gave great advise, detailed briefing and shown the awesome dive sites. Great visibility more than 25m horizontally full stretch of corals. From bottom looked up, one is greeted by the sun. The last thing I recalled as I looked back while I was diving was "Wow, amazing"
Boracay seems so crowdy with foreigners and all. Boracay's advantage is providing elites and everyone good hotels to stay and all that. But Aliguay Island can be your own once you visit. Quite untouched and wasa virgin island. Not crowdey. Good for Barkada's who loves to set up those tents, barbecues, grab some beer and enjoy the nature at its best. :)
Aliguay is part of Dapitan City. I went there with my fiancé. We rent the motor boat in the amount of P3750 a bit expensive but it's worth it. From Dakak beach resort we sailed the sea with a motor boat. It will take you an hour or two to reach the island. Though when we travel it's a little "bumpy" because of the waves. But it is "tolerable". When traveling to Aliguay, one must bring lots of adventurous spirit, because the island itself has so much to offer. Aside from snorkeling you can also do diving and camping as well. The island has excellent white sand beaches. So fine and crystal clear water. A very peaceful and calm place, suitable to those who wants to relax and spend quiet time with their loved ones away from the "hassle and buzzle" of the City. There's just one thing that you need not forget to bring -drinking water to hydrate yourself because there is no water source in the island. Though there are few residence in this small island still drinking water is fetched in the mainland. And also you need to have "packed food". Luckily during our stay we get to buy newly caught fish from one of the residence who sell their catch to the visitors. We have it grilled and then voila! we have a "sumptuous lunch". Fresh and healthy. We really had a nice time in the island even if we only stayed there half day. I really want to comeback and experience again the "paradise in Aliguay island". Definitely i will recommend the place to my friends and family members.
I hired a medium sized bangka (boat) from Dakak Park resort for the high price of P3750, lunch not included. Earlier, I had flown from Manila on Cebu Pacific to Dipolog City and been transported by a shutrtle van (45 minutes) thanks to the usual good value asia travel (dot) com deal.It took 70 minutes to reach the island from Dakak Park resort as the waves were choppy in the 'unprotected' middle of the trip. The island's coast is mostly pure white sand beach. It was absolutely beautiful although the waves were moving reasonably fast. I snorkelled off the boat about 20 metres from the part of the island that had cliffs. The variety of fish that I saw was not large, but there were a couple of schools. There is a restaurant that appears to only open for groups and a lovely and clean saltwater swimming pool that varies between roughly 1.5 and 2.7 metres deep. An attendant pushed some large floating toys in for our amusement although we were the only tourists. There was a table set up under a shady tree next to the pool and less than 10 metres from the idyllic looking white sand beach and aquamarine waters. The guide from Dakak Park Resort purchased three fish for us at a bargain total of P360 He then barbequed them using coconut husks for the fire. A nice late 20s girl from the island's restaurant assisted. The two trigger fish were nothing special to eat but the thinner Bancolisan fish was beautifully sweet. We had rice and some calamansi as a sauce. We brought soft drinks and water over in a Dakak supplied 'Esky' (polystyrene ice chest). There was no visible rubbish on the part of the island on which I walked. The islanders were very friendly with even the occasional dog that I encountered well behaved. There is also a tennis court on the island that I did not closely inspect, as well as a resident, caged peacock. There were clean toilets at the restaurant. The trip back was from 1405 to 1540 (95 minutes) and was longer because we detoured around the island to observe its totality. There is also at least one sari-sari (convenience) store on the island near the pool and restaurant.Despite the sometimes choppy waves getting to it in particular, the locals call Aliguay Island 'Paradise Island.' It is easy to see why!An airstrip is under construction with 60 workers but this does not mean it will be ready soon. This island makes a great day tour. In Thailand or off from Bali, it would be swamped with tourists. Even though it could be called 'Boracay in Mindanao', only about 20 tourists a month visit (although occasional groups from Japan or Taiwan can increase visitor numbers).Visit before the world discovers Aliguay Island.

We live close by and my wife's aunt and uncle have lived here for 30years. A pure coral island that you can walk around in 20 minutes.
Breath-taking… Enticing… Stunning… That is how I personally describe Aliguay Island – one of the most sought after tourist destination in Dapitan City. I have been and have gone back to Aliguay for like a number of times already, and why do I keep coming? Here’s why:Top 5 Must Do in Aliguay Island1. Run on the floaters!See that pink and blue floaters that bridge you from the fast craft to the island? Yes, you are left with two choices: (1) walk and be gently assisted by the boat crew; or (2) run on excitement! Well, I always run, go ahead, its fun! 2. Trek and explore.Remember Dora the Explorer? I personally don’t like her but lately I realized I was becoming like her. You know what I mean? Everytime I go to Aliguay Island, I go trekking. I shop for souvenirs and local products like dried fishes or make friends with the local people. They’re nice, especially the dried fish vendors, I always get a discount from them. Hehehe… And there is always something I discover each time I trek. The tennis court, the airstrip, a deep well… those were just a few of my many discoveries in the Island. So, save an hour from your itinerary to trek & explore Aliguay.3. Buy dried pusit. This is one product from Aliguay Island that is superbly mouth-watering and bilbil-gaining, haha! Bulad Pusit (tagalog and visayan term for dried squids) are being sold by the locals for only Php100 per pack which is about ¼ kilo! So imagine a kilo of cooked rice, a pack of fried dried pusit, plus sukang pinakurat and a bottle of Coke…What a perfect lunch for two! It’s Pusitlicious baby!4. Go snorkeling…Grab your snorkel, mask, and fins! The blue waters of Aliguay boast of different kinds of the friendliest marine species. Experience underwater life in the simplest and most natural setting… It’s just like you were in an endless aquarium! And take note, snorkeling appeals to all ages so you would definitely love it too! 5. Take a picture with the tour guide. We always have pictures with our friends or family or whoever we are with on our island get-away. But who’s that person who always answers our questions; give us info, always ready to assist us, takes our pictures at times? Yes, you’re right! Our dashing tour guide! We owe our 1 to 4 excitement from our tour guide. So c’mon, it’s always nice to remember him, not to mention that he’s cute and articulate. Say cheese! Well, that’s it! I’ve named FIVE. How about you?
