My girlfriend and I saw the making of rice noodles inadvertently through our 3 hour floating market tour booked through Hotel Xoai where we stayed in Can Tho. We paid a little extra for an English speaking guide who was great and offered a visit to the place on the way to the market. You would have to get up early to catch it, our tour starting at 0530. It was very interesting to see how they did it. Doesn't require a very long visit. There was a young girl making pancake/crepe things with some kind of green sauce that tasted really good as well.
We visited here as part of our floating market tour. We enjoyed seeing how rice noodles are made and sampling the banana rice noodle. We had a lovely breakfast of pork and noodles and the tea came in a pot (a luxury in Vietnam).
need to arrive before 10:00AM when the "factory" (more of a family business) is active, otherwise there is little to see there.
I didnt know how the noodles are made. I am very glad that I went to this factory. We made the boat trip tour from agendy Canthotourist where we have amazing Guide (young beautiful lady) that show us the hiden places of Mekong canals like this factory and had answers for our many questions (aks for Kim Guide). 50m from this factory is nice small bistro where you can have your morning coffee or breakfast. Recommendation to all.
I never expected the process of noodle making to be so entertaining to watch. We have followed all the steps of the procedure and it was fun. I guess for workers themselves it is less enjoyable. Nevertheless, the visit to Sau Hoai’s Rice Noodle Factory is highly recommended. It was combined in our case with visiting Cai Rang Floating Market (worth a visit) and Rice factory (less interesting).
We were welcomed with the most delicious smell of BBQ meat, only to find out it was rats being grilled to perfection. That said, the factory is an interactive museum type establishment that allows patrons to make their own rice noodles. Great experience. Next time I shall have rat meat for breakfast.
We came to this factory after the floating market, another typical riverside relaxing village. Nice demostration of noodle making and you can buy some back home @20k dong/kg! No food available ,only a small drink stall. Along the river you will see some washing and kids horsing in the muddy water. A pleasant trip and good for photoshoot.
This site beautifully demonstrates the use of a mixture of modern and ancient technology for the making of rice paper and rice noodles which are so prevalently used in the diet of the Vietnamese. A fascinating visit.
