The lady is so well educated and knows so much, her husband knows as much and what they do for the island is amazing. They grow all the plants and even more.
It cost 2 pesos/ person to take a short cab ride to the nursery, 1 pesos to get it, very cheap excursion, you will see baby sea turtles to med size ones, sea turtle hatchery as well.
This little nursery is where they grow all the plants/trees/flowers for all of the hotels on the island. There were 2 ladies here that showed us arounds the grounds. We started with the iguana, moved to the Heron like bird, the mama crocodile, baby crocodile and a large black fish. Then the ladies showed us the plants. Although they didn't speak English very well, they were extremely kind and tried very hard to please us. We left a few CUC's but I don't think there is actually a fee. We came here by scooter, definitely a place to stop by if you are on scooter or renting a Jeep.
staff was friendly and informative about the different species of sea turtles. Hands on but they do bite. Eggs are hatched here and raised before being released. We even got to see a wild Cuban Crocodile sunning on the sandbar.
Assuming this was the place we accidentally discovered; with the gardens and alligators. Thank you to the wonderful man who took time to welcome us and show us around (it was very evident that this man works very very hard, so we appreciated his kind welcoming nature towards us just showing up)
The turtles were even laying eggs in the beach at our hotel! So cool! Each morning when we went for our walk we could see the tracks where they came up from the water! And by the way, the entrance to the nursery is only 1 CUC!
This nursery supplies all the plants for the resorts on the island. The lady who runs it loves to have guest stop in. She has a pet crocodile that you can feed. Just be careful, it is a wild animal
Engratia welcomed us and showed us the crocodiles, turtles, a snake in a jar and plants that she grows for the hotels on the island. We saw a large iquana on the side of the road on the short walk to the tower. I would like to know when and why this tower and buildings were built. Does anyone know the history of it?
The nursery would be perfect if they also had a family of Demarest's hutias. With Cayo iguana now off limits, there's no way to see the hutias.
It is really not much of a nursery but was only a short walk from the Pelicano hotel. They had some baby crocodiles. An older lady working there showed us around. I am glad I took the time for a walk and visit to this spot.
This is great if you're in cayo Largo make sure to go, you can feed the turtles and take them!!!! The hole family loved it. Once you've paid once you can go back, it's only one pesos by person!!!!
I learned so much about the turtles, the efforts that are made to keep them alive. Congrats to all of you working there. You really make a difference! These Turtles are so cute!!! Go visit it ! You will not regret!
Waling distance from Sol Pelicano. Great place to view crocs and lizards. It is also the nursery for all the plantings at the hotel. A visit to this area lasts about 30 min.
really interesting we learn a lot about the turtles and at night we realease some in front of the hotel
Not very big had 4 pools with turtles you could pick them up.people were freindly found out about turtles and the laying of there eggs also had a sandy area where eggs were burried.
