We took a taxi tour to Havana while visiting Varadero. It looks like a nice place to take a stroll in the morning, but I wouldn't want to be there after dark.

This place brings back memories. I lived in an apartment on the Malecón for several months and fondly remember the sound of music and conversations that would float up to our room stories above. Locals hang out here in the evenings and will often strike up a conversation with you – just out of curiosity and a desire to be social. Buy a bottle of rum or a few planchados and take a seat along the wall – you're bound to make some friends!

This is a 8 km roadway, seawall and esplanade along the north shore of Havana. It's a must-see on your visit to Havana. Just a place to stroll and look out towards Florida and the Atlantic. The waves can get pretty high here and break on the seawall getting walkers soaked! It's well lit and generally quite busy. A good, safe way to see the waterfront. And, if you're a runner one of the must-runs in the Cuba!

The malecon is basically a road/highway by the ocean. There is no sandy beaches anywhere, as the coast is all rock. No park or green areas whatsoever. Just high speed noisy traffic zooming by. I suppose if you live in the city, with no view, and no fresh air, the malecon is a novelty. For me, having lived in vancouver for 15 years west of Denman, this is nothing to "see". It's not much of an "attraction".

we walked along the water and it was amazing. the big waves crashed against the sea wall and the spray would soak us. it was pretty cool thing to do. cant say anything bad about it, i bet it is amazing in the summer months when it is a bit warmer water

A walk along the Malecon should be a compulsory activity for all visitors to Havana for seeing the contrast between the few restored buildings and the crumbling ones encapsulates the problems Cuba faces and yet shows how it was and could become again.Anywhere else it would be the natural place for hotles and bars but oddly there are few. Nor is it busy with tourists for it seems to me that few venture further than where their guides suggest.THEY ARE MISSING OUT.

We walked the Malecon three times. It is a lovely walk with old buildings on one side and the sea on the other. On one occasion we crossed and had a beer and ice cream in a parador. It was lovely as were the owners. Unfortunately the weather was fine but windy and we mistimed our run past a spot where the waves were coming over the wall. Fortunately we were on our way back to the hotel. A local who was fishing thought it very amusing - as did we! Next day the same fisherman went out of his way to come over to us and ask if we planned to get wet again! The locals were always very friendly even if their English was a bit broken, albeit better than our Spanish.

Where is Key West? Male on and 95. That is 95 miles. Beautiful ocean views, waves breaking over the sea wall. Unfortunately, in big storms, you can't get there because of water on the road. This is a must see for anyone going to Havana. Take a private car, old convertible, and have them drive you along the Malecon. You will never forget the trip until you find that your car is probably running on a Hyndai diesel.

It is what it is a sea 7k sea wall defense. Sure its where the locals hang out Friday nights and the weekends but thats about it. Good bay views and of the fort at that end. If you want a nice refreshing long walk after dinner go for it but dont expect to see anything other than the sea, the wall and crumbling buildings behind it.

This seven km promenade is where Cubans gather, especially late at night. Sea water frequently comes over the wall, so take care, as the pavement is slippery in places. Sad to see the beautiful, crumbling facades, which apparently fall down in heavy rain.

The best time to walk Malecon through is Sunday afternoon, when Havanian go out, sit there and enjoy time together. The street beuty is overestimated, but has a character, so I strongly recommend to walk it and drive it.

Great sea front walk encompasing many interesting places in Havana - from the Old Town to the new town, be prepared for high crushing waves and wind, but most importantly a leisurely and pleasant walk. It's great for people watching and seeing how the locals live.

We expected a bustling boardwalk but there is no action here at all but it does offer a nice view of the old fort on the opposite bank. In fact it smells of urine and sewage and is a total travesty that it has been allowed to deteriorate to this when it has the potential to be as nice as say the Cofniche in Beirut.

At the beginning of our holiday in Cuna we visited Havana for the third time.A walk along the Malecon saw massive waves breaking against the sea wall, sometimes drenching the tourists in their open top taxis going along the road!In quieter times you can watch fishermen catching their supper with the background of grand old colonial mansions.Excellent place to visit, especially when the winds are balmy.
