We wanted a good beach for snorkeling and were told that Turners Beach was one of the best in Antigua. It was nice there but the surf was up that day and the waves were crashing pretty good. We could not see anything in the water that day. Not sure if it is like that all the time but the day we were there the snorkeling was no good.
What is not to like here? Lovely beach, great local food and great hospitality. Thanks to the owner and Neli for our curried conch with some of the best flavored rice and peas!Go for the Day, but stay for the sunset with your camera!
We enjoyed this beach when we went in December. There is plenty of watersports activities going on and a nice beach bar (that serves good cocktails!) There is also a nice walk to the left of the beach (go up a paved path) - with a great view from the top of the beach and you can see Montserrat in the distance!
Great beach with turquoise water so clear you see the fish hanging out with you. Wave runners available and not too many merchants pushing their goods.
Very beautiful beach, but unfortunately we chose a "cruiseship" day, so very noisy and busy and no shades available. Lots of pushy vendors too - but to be fair, this may just be because the cruisers were on the beach for the day. We gave up by lunchtime so didn't try the beach bar.
Just another one of 365 good beaches. Jackie O's love beach is more fun and right next-door. On non-cruiseship days it's deserted and amazing on cruiseship days you can't see through all the people.
Firstly we are only interested in the beach and sea so have never tried the food/tourist stuff. We take our own towels etc and lie on the sand. Having said that, Turners has become one of our staple choices, have been about 10 times. The snorkelling at the rocky end can be spectacular. Have seen so many different fish up there. There is also wide swathes of sandy bottomed sea with crystal water (usually if there hasn’t been a mini storm). When the weather is right there are spectacular views of Montserrat and Redonda and even sometimes St Kitts and Nevis. You can also walk up and over the grassy bit at the south end to find a deserted beach, bit too stony to sit on, but awash with piles of broken conch shells where you can find a perfect one nestling in there. Sorry to say the only time it’s a bit spoiled is when the cruises are in, it’s one of their day trip choices.
Turner's beach is a nice stop over for lunch if you are traveling up the West Coast of Antigua from Falmouth to Valley Church. The food is simple, well-priced and the staff friendly and accommodating. We had lunch here twice, and enjoyed both the food and lovely white sand beach. Chairs, umbrellas can also be rented and there are water sports rentals. It's quite busy if the cruise ships are in town and bringing guests here, so it's best to avoid those days. On the day there was no cruise ship in town, we had the beach practically to ourselves and the restaurant was very quiet.
When we travel we are always on the lookout for a beach you can snorkel from shore. We took a taxi ride from Tranquility Bay where we were staying. The taxi ride is about 7 minutes to Turner's Beach and cost us $30 US round trip for two people. We told the driver when to return and he was prompt about picking us up. We were threre from 10:00a - 2:30p. We rented two lounge chairs for $5 each and the wooden umbrella was free. We had our own snorkel gear, except for fins which we rented fins for the both of us for $10. To the left of the beach is the snorkeling area which is pretty good for off of the beach. We saw lobster, sea urchins, conch shell and lots of small fish of different colors. I would highly recommend going here for snorkeling. The current is strong enough where you have to pay attention so you don't swim into the rocks but not too strong to be considered dangerous. I loved the fact that you could be snorkeling then look up and see cows on land. There is a restaurant on site in which we ate lunch. We both had the chicken curry which was plentiful and only $12 US dollars, very good and it came with vegetables and rice for sides. They have nice bathrooms in the restaurant to change. The only negative about the beach is the vendors. They had a vendor row on both sides of the beach which is fine. I understand that the locals rely on the tourist to make their living BUT the vendors should set up and allow tourists to make up their mind whether they want to come shop or not. I did not like the fact that the vendors left their shop area and approached us on the beach and they were somewhat pushy, especially the guy trying to sell music. Once you told them no, they went away but you had to tell no thank you to three or four vendors. If you don't mind that, then this beach is a MUST! If ever in Antigua again, we will definitely return.
Turner Beach is a nice village beach although it needs TLC, a great view devils bridge is fantastic.
We hired a couple of loungers @ $5 dollars each. Excellent facilities here for a beach bar (toilets etc). The beach is very big and, like all the others we saw, beautiful. Food was basic but very well cooked. A great stop off.
We spent the afternoon at this spot. There is rock jumping if you swim out to a rock on to the south side of beach end. It is quite dangerous and there are tons of big sea urchins. I was stung and it killed. We went for the sunset and it was Amazing. The restaurant there is ok. Wouldn't eat there again.
we saw this beach bar while driving around the island it looked ok from a distance. we dropped in to have lunch. A non smiling waitress informed us that most of the appetisers were not available and the remainder of the menu was not to inspiring. Sorry cant coment on the food because the lack of choice was enough to make us jump back in the car and move on. By the way the beach looks nice but you do need to pay to rent a sunbed.
Sand, water, setting is beautiful but it's next to the road and at times it can get noisy with all the cars and busses passing by, But most of the time it's quit and beautiful. Nice for evening walk.
He recently stayed at Sugar Ridge and was taken to Turner's beach by Vaughn the beach shuttle guy. His sister owns the restaurant and his sun mans the beach chairs. The beach is smaller and while we were there it was almost empty. Beautiful water and snorkel gear to rent and swim right off the beach by some rocks and see amazing fish. The food was great and the price on drinks was the cheapest we found. Highly recommended.
