If you have a car, wherever you are staying on the island, it's easy to get to. We were near South Point and decided to go. If you're on the West Coast, definitely worth a look. See the sea bashing the cliffs sending spray pluming high into the air. Then grab a drink at the cafe, and descend the steps into the cave below. There's a pool to swim in inside so take your togs. The waves sometimes breach the threshold and refill the pool, it's just great.Back to the cafe, a warm welcome from the hosts and a simple menu. We chose flying fish cutters which melted in the mouth. And the hostess (from Manchester, UK, introduced me to 10 Saints beer (thanks Sue!) now I'm hooked!
I wasn't expecting much from this place but I have to say our guide made it a great experience. I can imagine however that with a different guide it may have been a lesser experience as they do seem to vary in their knowledge and people skills. Its still a nice place to visit and swimming in the cave is great.
We had heard of the Animal Flower Cave for years, but had never ventured in. The admission is well worth it. Hike down into a cave on a bluff over the Atlantic and definitely go for a swim in the pools. Our guide, JJ, was super mellow and knowledgable. Very casual tour, but informative. The entire grounds are fantastic with overlooks of the ocean smashing into the cliffs, treehouse and playground for the kids, nice little lunch spot, and the women raved about the new bathrooms. The owner actually works behind the grill and things move along very efficiently by Caribbean standards.
We had a fantastic time visiting the caves! My only regret is that we didn't not get here early enough to enjoy a cutter and a drink on the beautiful terrace overlooking the cliffs. They close at 5 PM, so be sure to get here on time. Despite what others have said about going to the edge of the cliff while in the pool, I strongly recommend you don't. We stayed behind the large rock up above, as our guide directed us to. One huge wave made it up and washed us to the back of the cave on two sets of waves. I found it exciting and fun and wasn't too worried since I knew the rocks were not sharp inside the pool, only slippery. I was very happy we were not out towards the edge. Our guide was great and very knowledgeable, pointing out the 'hand' and the broccoli-looking formations. My only wish is that he had extended a hand out to the ladies when it was slippery to walk. There are bathrooms there to change in and out of your swimsuit as well as an outdoor shower to rinse off. It is a must see!
Been to the Animal Flower Caves many times before, always take friends and family there to view North Point. Went yesterday for the first time this year & were amazed by all the changes. It's so beautiful & comfortable to sit, have a drink & lunch. Sue & staff are welcoming & so friendly. You need to go & see it again & again ... a MUST DO in Barbados.
We were delighted to find this new coffee shop/restaurant. It is so well placed, with views of crashing waves on both sides. A very big improvement on the simple place that was there before. David W
We've all been told good things can come in small packages and this is certainly true here. We had gone to Harrison Cave in a.m. and I was afraid I'd be caved out. So glad I didn't skip Animal Flower Cave. We had a great lunch, yummy rum punch and the owner is a pistol. Our guide was friendly and knowledgable and the cave completely different. I'll go back.
We spent a week in Barbados and did quite a lot but this was our favourite. The views were as the others say - great. We took lots of pictures of huge waves smashing into the cliffs. Minnie and his team made us very welcome with REALHAM sandwiches and rum punch.8 of us went on the tour of the caves and went for a swim in the pool. We swam to the front of the cave where you could see very big waves coming towards the cave, but they lost so much power as the cave is above the level of most waves. The guide was very good and patient as we spent a long time swimming in the cave.Every now and again some of the wave would come into the cave which was the best bit as very occasionally quite a bit comes into the cave and bowls you over a bit but it is very safe.If you want to p do the swim in the cave you should finds way to check as they are not always open if the sea and wind are too strong.
Great views of the Caribbean sea & the Atlantic Ocean converging from the terrace of the bar restaurant on top of the cliffs, beautifully laid out with excellent toilet facilities & that's before you get into the cave, very dramatic. Well worth the drive but there is a charge to explore the caves.
I have visited Animal Flower Caves three times since the beginning of January and each time I visit it just gets better and better. There is now a beautiful terrace to sit and enjoy a beer or rum punch or sode. The rum punch can be improved upon but the beer is always cold. It's nice to also enjoy a cheese or fish cutter as well. I can't wait to see how much it will have improved next year when I come back. There is a fee to enter into the caves but the spectacular view is still free so feel free to buy a beverage to help this place get better and better.
We visited this beautiful place twice during our one week stay in Barbados. They serve a simple "cutter" lunch that tastes wonderful. The view for lunch is incredible. We did the tour of the cave with Chad, as our guide. He was very informative, friendly and made our visit memorable. If I could I would spend days at the cave and the north part of the island.
Didn't visit the caves, as we were time constrained, but the view from the top of the cliff east towards the rest of the bay is worth the drive on its own. No cost to look, and you will never regret having watched the huge waves crashing against the cliffs. Magnificent!
