caguas botanical garden "william miranda marin"

Unfortunately we visited in the off season so the display of flowers etc. were not in abundance but the gardens were still very nice. The biggest draw back is that plants are not labeled as in most gardens so if you are not a horticulturist you can enjoy the view but have to guess at what you are looking at. There are a few food and drink kiosks at the gardens so be sure to have a bottle of water with you. The gardens are only open Thursday thru Sunday.

We didn't know how big or how much there was to see. We had went on a Monday, but they're only open Thursday to Sunday. We went back on Thursday and we're so glad we did. We walked the grounds and loved it. My only complaint is that more labels are needed to name the trees and plants. Thank goodness my husband could tell us a lot, but there were some trees he didn't know the names of or hadn't seen before himself. I would visit again. Beautiful grounds.

You just have to feel how calm the place is. Not only is it surrounded by nature, it has different attractions with water, walking through the trails, and if that isn't enough, you find yourself up hill with a really antique Puertorican traditional cooking rest. The flavors, the smell, the service, everything was great. A few feets in front of it, you can actually enjoy how the old time homes looked like. I really enjoyed it and looking forward to go again.

This is a nice place to enjoy with family and friends. The Botanical Garden holds different activities throughout the year, with puerto rican goodies, arts and crafts. Nature in splendor to spend some relaxing hrs.

I usually go in the mornings to walk or jog. Listening to the sounds of nature early in the morning is a great experience (I have a yearly subscription, so I can enter at any time.) Reasonable well maintained, although it can be improved. You don't find many places in Puerto Rico where you can go every day to be in contact with nature, right in the middle of a city.

Close to San Juan, on good roads. Just follow the signs! Nice mix of vistas and features, like a koi water garden, sculpture garden, and small orchid house. You can take a tour or just walk through.

We were a group of 32 Seniors that toured the Cultural and Botanical Gardens in Caguas. The garden itself is situated on 60 acres, the grounds of a former sugar mill. It has many paths that let you meander. The garden is meticulously kept and staff is bi-lingual, friendly and very knowledgeable. There are many "special" areas designed to highlight aspects of Puerto Rican heritage and culture. My favorite area was the reproduction of an old country house, kitchen garden and the Roster protecting the hen and egg. This is what many Puerto Rican people remember as grandfathers house or a typical Jibaro (poor country folk) house. There is also an area where they have planted many trees in danger of extinction, to help protect them and to educate people of the importance of conservation of our natural resources. The garden has been planted with various flowering plants like heliconias, bromeliads, orchids and gingers. It also has an area of palms and another of fruit trees. There is an orchidarium (orchid house), displaying a number of blooming orchids. There are a few lovely ponds, some with water lilies, one pond large enough to have peddle boats you can rent for $3.00 There is also a stage in this pond where they hold many great concerts. Although it’s fun to just wander around the Gardens, Caguas has created an extra way for those with physical limitations to view the grounds. They offer guided tram tours of the garden for an additional fee. The tram tour is about 60 minutes long. Our tour was in English. The guided tram was an additional fee of $3 per person. Note the paths are gravel, not paved, so it’s not too easy to use a wheelchair or stroller. A short stop at the Caguas Plaza ended our activities as we sought out the pizza and ice cream parlor. Do believe an enjoyable day was had by all.

Only 20 minutes from San Juan, you can really get to know what Puerto RIco is all about. Located in Caguas, a small town with a metropolitan flavor, you can get close to nature, meditate, have a picnic, learn about plants and get to know more about the history of Puerto Rico. A must when come to Puerto Rico.,

We have traveled to Puerto Rico three times this year on a cruise and wanted to see something different. We took a tour to the gardens and enjoyed seeing how beautiful they were. We toured on a weds. and the gardens were open only for our tour so there were no crowds. We enjoyed the history and the info about the plants. They have rides that are only opened Thurs-Sun. It was a nice way to spend the day.

After a busy and stress-filled day, what a beautiful place to unwind and get some much-needed exercise, I enjoyed the hanging bridge, the Taino area and the variety of plants... but most of all the tranquility.

When I First walked into Caguas Botanical Garden. I went back to my young years living in PR. I could not believe how well they preserved a piece of time and cultivated plants and fruit trees that are now in a scarce of their population. I saw trees that no longer exist that when I was a young kid I would pick fruits of them. there rich taste for our grown coffee is great. and really a cannot wait to go back again. I inspire every one who visits the island to visit this botanical garden. they wont regret it.

This is the only botanical garden outside of the metro area. It is young, since it is less than 10 yrs., so the plant growth still needs some time.

I have been to Puerto Rico many times but never to the Caguas Botanical gardens. I decided to give it a try. It is a nice, small place. the problem is that nothing is labeled. You walk by different plants, and trees, and there are no signs explaining what tree or plant you are admiring. There is nothing special about this Botanical garden. They do have a few exhibits that were interesting like a re-creation of the Taino ceremonial field and what is left of an old sugar plantation. The entry price was good so if you are in the town it might be worth just stopping by.

Was on vacations decided to go over since they had opened the new attraction of prehistoric dinosaurs. After paying $12 for adults $10 for middle age children and $6 for the small children we where excited to start are journey. After watching a 10 minutes video you are then left on your own to walk and walk all of the areas about 15 minutes walk or less with no guide walking with you neither explaining you or the children anything of what you are looking at and walking by in any of the areas. After that in our way out they had a pony ride, a inflatable and water activity witch for our surprise had a additional cost of $4 p/p per ride. We still tried to make the best of it since we had the kids and where on vacations but I was completely disappointed after learning that to go in the other side of the Botanical Garden (The original side) the same day I would still had to pay additional entrance cost for that side. Thats when we decided to just go back to the hotel and close that chapter..But never again would I go back.

It was truly amazing going up & down this beautiful sanctuary of plants & animals. You can also see also a nice village of the native Taino Indians. Just an amazing day! Caguas is the heart of Puerto Rico!!
