My family visits PR every year usually during the spring break/holy week time. We have done many trips & tours but Excursiones Ecoboriken is truly special because of the owner/operator Jose. We did a day tour of the waters off La Parguera. We were driving all the way from Patillas & got more-than-a-bit delayed. Fortunately, Jose was only meeting our family. He couldn't have been kinder or more polite about our lateness - a true gentleman. We kayaked for about two hours. Jose's extensive knowledge of the ecosystem & the plants, fish, animals, etc. made the trip fun and educational. My teenage daughter & my senior-citizen Tia (as well as myself & my husband) all had a great time. I highly recommend this activity!

We found Jose through another website which detailed the morning kayak tour. We met Jose at 7:15 am on Monday morning. We called him last minute and was able to accommodate for both of us. Growing up in Ponce, I have visited La Parguera many times but never had had kayak through the bay or experienced seeing so much nature within the mangrove. The weather was perfect...flat bay, overcast, but with a nice south breeze. My husband and I shared the kayak and had a great time with Jose picking up sea stars, red sea urchins, and pointing out interesting facts about the fauna and flora found all around the mangrove. Seemed like every mangrove, not only had its curious name, but also a distinctive feature as a living organism. We swam on the natural pools formed through the magrove canals and dove to amaze ourselves with all kinds of fish, lobster, jelly fish, barracuda, and a fast sting ray. We were never rushed. We had a great relaxing time. We hope to return for a night tour at the bio luminesce bay in La Parguera, Lajas, Puerto Rico.

I found Jose in a travel magazine in my hotel room, after a very disappointing tour with "West Divers" of the biolumenescent bay the night before. It was the last and third night of my short getaway to P.R. and I was determined to make it with it! Jose agreed to just take me for a very reasonable price. I was a little frazzled and badly sunburnt. Jose's laid back manner was comforting and therapeutic. It was my first time on a kayak, in a saltwater body of water at night, and by the end I was an expert! We got out the Mangrove tree channels and it felt like I was in Avatar! Jose caught a starfish, I experienced a lot of the "biolumenescent" water. In the end, we even went swimming in our life vests.

Jose is such a nice guys and has years of experience and knowledge about the environment and area. We did the night bioluminiscent bay tour. So much fun and to learn what we did and to be able to swim in the bay was killer. By all means give him and call and book a trip. Well worth it!

We heard about this kayak trip through a sailing trip we took in San Juan. So we scheduled a night kayak trip to see the bioluminiscent bay. Jose was very knowledgeable and friendly. He was able to explain the science behind all the things we toured since he has a biology degree. My husband and I got to swim in the bioluminiscent waters. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity and I recommend this tour to everyone.

First, the best way to get in touch with Jose is to go through trip advisor, under his company's info, it says email company. After that ...what can I say... an adventure company (Jose) that is really driven by the owner's passion for the area. He is a really great guy and so knowledgeable about La Paguera and the keys that you will explore there. We began very early 7:00am, it was a perfect day for kayaking. We made our way through the keys each with their different characteristics and names. Jose giving us information about the wildlife around us, as well as, some of the translations in English. We kayak... I think Jose appreciated this... in that we were pretty good at manuvering the mangroves and were able to make pretty good time even though we were taking our time exploring. We throughly enjoyed ourselves got some great photos and it was a pleasure meeting Jose and having him as our guide.

Jose led my girlfriend and I out on a biobay tour. We had a great time. Jose taught us a lot about the natural wildlife around us. We saw the bioluminesent water light up and I even got to jump in and see the water glow around me. Jose also found a few HUGE starfish and a sea cucumber. It was a blast!

Getting this trip set up was a little difficult. Their website is currently down (in the process of revamping), and email communication was not always returned as quickly as one would hope. However, once we were able to speak on the phone, things got arranged just fine. We finally got our trip squared away, and had a great time. The guides were friendly and knowledgeable. The kayaking was at an easy/relaxed pace, and it was fun to see the water glow as we put our hands or kayak paddles into the water. It is my understanding that the bio bay in Fajardo is better...and the location in Vieques is "the best"...however, if you are already on the west side of Puerto Rico, then this is certainly a trip worth doing. After the trip, head over to Moon's in Parguera for a great tapas dinner.

I have been visiting La Parguera for years and Jose taught me things I didn't know about this amazing natural preserve. Must see and do when you visit!

My girlfriend and I and another couple were staying in Rincon, PR. After trying to contact another bio bay kayak tour group unsuccessfully we ran across Excursiones Ecoboriken.Jose stood out from the start as he contacted us back almost immediately and was very professional and courteous. He went so far as to text us directions for our trip down to La Parguera which were very helpful. We went for a 7:30 night tour and met Jose as expected at a small launch point right off of a road. As others have mentioned, his equipment is in great shape. Jose provided head lamps, paddles, life vests and kayaks in addition to providing a dry bag to store valuables in during the tour. The tour itself is excellent because of Jose's intimate knowledge of the area. It's an absolutely engaging experience to say the least. Ask a question and Jose has an answer and probably an interesting story to go along with it. We unfortunately picked a night with an almost full moon which obscures some of the bio-luminescent life, but we got to see some interesting creatures like starfish and sea cucumbers. If you're brave, you even have the option of swimming in one of the lagoons; I personally forewent this option.I really can't say enough good things about this tour. It was definitely a highlight of our week long stay in PR. Do not hesitate to take this tour. It is well worth it!

Jose is fun, interesting and leads a great adventure for all. it was the perfect combo of challenging, safe and adventure for our family. We felt a great connection to him and Puerto Rico through his accounts of nature, Eco tourism and environmental issues. We learned so much and got a good workout besides!

My husband and I did about a 2 hour night kayak cruise through La Parguera and it was quite the experience. I am not a huge fan of the ocean at night but it was amazing to see the bio bay. Jose and his wife were friendly, extremely knowledgeable and easy to talk with. He answered all our questions and engaged conversation to cultivate new ones. He seemed very passionate and it made our experience far more valuable. I would recommend this to anyone in or near la parguera. We stayed in Ponce and it was about 35 mins away. Worth the trip! Wear your suit because you do get wet and apply bug repellent before you go. Tell him Ryan and jenn from southern California sent you:-)

Our kayak tour of the mangroves was the highlight of vacation for our family. Jose provides excellent equipment, is flexible with scheduling, and leads an educational and fun tour for the entire family. Our group of 5 (3 adults/2 teens on 2 double kayaks, a single, and Jose's kayak) went on a 4-hour tour that included stops in several mangrove islands, about 45 minutes of swimming in crystal-clear Caracol key, a mangrove "tunnel", and excellent information about the ecosystem from start to finish. At first I was afraid our youngest (almost 13) wouldn't be able to keep up, but Jose allowed plenty of breaks and stops to catch up. I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys water, sun, and nature!

This is a “MUST DO”! My two kids (12 & 10) and I were a bit nervous because we have never gone kayaking before. Jose made us feel very safe and confident which made this an unforgettable experience. We quickly began to enjoy our informative tour as soon as we got off the shore. He gave great details of the area’s fauna and flora. He also recommended other places to visit. The real magic occurred when we arrived at the location were there was a large concentration of the microscopic organisms that causes the heavenly sparkle and glow. Don’t miss this encounter!
