I took a lesson in Rincon and spent all day never catching a wave. In Luquillo, with Beach Boys Surfschool, I rode the very first wave I tried. With the help of the instructor, I rode multiple waves over two hours. The difference was the board and the instruction. In Rincon, smaller more advanced boards were used; in Luquillo, a larger beginner board was employed. Further, in Rincon, a group lesson vs. one on one instruction. The instructor was personable and knowledgeable. It was a great day and a great work out. A lasting memory and the price was more than reasonable.Dave
My two teens wanted to try surfing and paddle boarding. We had a wonderful afternoon doing both activities. Both kids got up on the surf boards which was so fun for them. I can't say enough about how helpful, professional, friendly and responsive they were to us. I would definitely recommend the Beach Boys to everyone.

Our Saturday evening flight home was canceled, so I called them Saturday evening to request a lesson Sunday before our new flight home. They offered us a few different time slots. Two of us signed up for the lesson, and we exchanged numbers to be able to meet at the correct spot. It was only the two of us at the lesson. There was one main instructor, Mike, and an assistant. He gave us a 5 minute lesson on the beach and within 5 minutes we were in the water. Neither one of us had ever even seen a board before. They brought two training boards and long sleeve shirts for us to wear. Mike was with us the entire time, and we were never deeper than waist deep. Very personable and hands on instructions. We thoroughly enjoyed our lesson and were very thankful they were able to fit us in! Such a random activity that we were very happy we ended up having the time for it.
The Luquillo Beach Boys are absolutely amazing. My boyfriend and I visited Luquillo Beach in March 2013. He took the surfing lesson and he did really well! The Beach Boys kept working with him until he got it on his own. They were patient and wonderful teachers. Later, my boyfriend and I hung out further down the beach. He went out into the water as I stayed on the shore. Apparently the current is very strong where we were and it started to pull him further and further from the shore. He called out for help, I signaled the Beach Boys, and they came running with surf boards in hand to rescue him out of the ocean's strong current! The Beach Boys not only gave an amazing surf lesson, they also saved my boyfriend's life! Thank you Beach Boys!!!
My husband and 8-year-old daughter had their first surfing lessons from the Beach Boys, and both were up and surfing quickly! Great fun and highly recommended! My daughters favorite activity in PR!!
August 08/27/13A MUST = This Made our girls trip ,unforgettable = Great service Great guysFrom the start the customer service was great, we spoke to them before we headed on our trip and they made me feel confortable about reaching out to them and they will tell me what will be the best day (wearther/surf wise) to book them to get the best experience. They took the time and were very informative and made sure the girls knew that safety was the first priority Our girls (ages 10 and 17) have never touched a surf board before and now they are hooked!!Their exact words were that "if we could stay longer on our vacation they would want to do this again" They were standing up and catching waves after 15 minutes in the water, Each one of our girls had a dedicated instructor that made sure they were safe and had a great time..I loved their approach, I defenitly got my money's worth and more...to be totally honest I'm very cheap to say the least, but i was so pleased I gave them a 40% tip...that says alot for me trust me
We were in PR for a well deserved family vacay. My husband and I took our 11 (by only one week) year old daughter and our 14 1/2 yr old son to Puerto Rico. Its typically challenging to find things that they both can do and enjoy, much less the entire family, as their interests and abilities due to size, age and gender are entirely different. This was a day that was tops in our book of life! Me and the kids were "on board," so to speak, with taking surf lessons. I read several reviews on the Beach Boys and how they were consistently getting their students riding waves in less than half an hour. I decided it had to be them and we booked them about 2 weeks prior to the trip. We arrived at Luquillo around 10 in the morning. After about a 3 - 5 min lesson on the sand, my son hesitantly volunteered to go first in the water. No joke... he caught the very first wave and rode all the way to shore! Nearly the same with my daughter... she was up and riding to shore within the first three tries. It took me a bit longer but only due to old chronic knee and ankle injuries on the same leg. I just needed to relax a bit. I took a time out after about 5 tries because my kids were advancing so quickly, I wanted them to keep going and it was a greater joy watching my two succeed as they were smiling and feeling a fabulous sense of accomplishment wave after wave, going farther and farther out, and moving from long to short boards. After they continued to advance, I gave it another go and got it right away and was able to continue riding waves; advancing myself. Not bad for a 47 yr old mom, if I do say so myself! Both kids adore Mikey and he was excellent with both the kids and me. They are still talking about what a wonderfully nice guy he is, along with the rest of the crew. This was well worth saving up for! Now my son would like to add a few words.... Mikey was a great guy and an excellent teacher at that. he was great with my 11 year old sister and got me up on my very first time to ride all the way to the beach! His brother who's name I don't know also helped a lot with my surfing experience. They both taught me a lot from balance to courage and an inspiration.!!! I would love to move to a beach to continue to practice the principles and lessons that Mikey and his brother have taught me on "the big ones"... Thanks a lot Mikey !
We had a great time stand-up paddle boarding with the Luquillo Beach Boys. We started at the mouth of the river and headed up stream watching the wild life and having a ball the entire time. I'd recommend the trip to anyone.
My entire family (ages 12 to 50) took a lesson from them last week. None of us had ever surfed before this time. The instructors had us up and riding within 15 minutes. The waves are gentle and the instructors knew exactly where to position us to catch and ride the waves. They had a selection of surf boards in case we wanted to try more advanced models. All of their boards were in excellent condition and the begginer boards were very easy to learn on. We went back the following day to surf again in very windy/choppy conditions. Even though we just paid for the board rental, they came out in the surf to help us adjust to the different conditions free of charge. I would highly recommend them!
My girls ranging from 12 to 15 years of age loved the surfing! Very nice surfing instructors and family friendly environment. Highly recommended.
These guys also do amazing Stand-up Paddleboarding tours. It was beautiful and so much fun! Capi seemed to know the names of every type of bird we saw--and there were so many we saw! We cracked open a couple of coconuts for some refreshment, and were surrounded by great scenery. The tour was about 2 hours of moderate to light exercise...I'd recommend it for young and old.
I wanted to surf and came across the beach boys. The conditions weren't great that day, as it was very windy and the water was very choppy but I was still determined to catch some waves. Ty took me in for a lesson and I felt very safe. He helped me paddle out and catch some waves. I would definitely go back for another lesson with Ty. Thank you!
I first learned about the Luquillo Beach Boys last year (2011) while vacationing in Luquillo. While I didn't venture into learning to surf, they were teaching right there next to me at the beach. Families came and went taking lessons, laughing, taking pictures and having a fantastic time. This year I volunteered at an autistic children surfing event in Isla Verde and there they were volunteering to teach autistic children to surf! Little kids, bigger kids, no problem. They were clearly able to handle it with grace and humor and the kids loved it. Take a look at the pictures on their FB page and look at those little faces. After a long day in the sun and lots of good work, I went to Luquillo beach the next day to relax and there they were teaching a whole family to surf. What impresses me the most is that everyone taking lessons looks so happy and the Luquillo Beach Boys work as a team. Someone is in the water, someone at the edge of the beach. They communicate and celebrate every attempt, especially children. Well, I'll write again after I go back in July 2013 because next time I'm taking lessons! These guys are awesome and I know I'll be in the most caring hands.
On November 17 I had an event for kids with autism in Isla Verde, since the first day that I approached them about the event they said yes! Having them there teaching kids with autism how to surf was an amazing experience. Thank you guys!!!
