We went there on a cruise and I had prearranged by phone for them to pick me up. It was $85 for the whole thing, the horse riding and the ride there and back. They met us right across the street from where you get off the boat at the Sheridan hotel. It's about an hour ride to the ranch. Once we got there they asked Who had and had not rode a horse before. They then explained how to ride the horse and explained where we were going and what to expect from the horse. He even told us each horses quirks. We rode through the rain forest to the beach and then rode on the beach for awhile. We got to trot on the horses several times. After we rode on the beach he even asked everyone if they had cameras and took several pictures of everyone. The group is small. We only had 5 in our group and said the most they take out was 6. This excursion was better and cheaper then what they offer on the cruise ship. Had a blast and rode for about an hour and a half. I recommend if you do this you wear boots though. I wore sneakers and my foot kept slipping out of the foot holder. I would defiantly do this again. It was my wife's favorite excursion on the whole cruise and we did 3 other great excursions.
Jose was absolutely wonderful!! This was one of our most favorite parts of our vacation!! Thank you for making this such a wonderful experience for our family!
We did a 1 to 1 1/2 hour ride yesterday afternoon and had a great time. We found the ride on-line at 1 pm, I called Jose at 1:05 pm and we were climbing on our horses at 2:30 pm. (We were very lucky, as it turned out, as there were no more scheduled rides this day but Jose contacted his guide who said that he was willing to stay and do a private tour for just my girlfriend and I.) The location is only 10 minutes drive (maximum) from our rental condo at the 'Wyndham Grand Resort' (Rio Mar Beach Resort), also in Rio Grande. The horses were very good and easy to ride-control (only the second time riding for my girlfriend and I). The ride was beautiful...through the rain-forest and right on the beach. (I must say that riding on the beach was way cooler and more beautiful than I thought it would be.) Most important of all, our tour guide (also named Jose) was FANTASTIC!!!
Just returned from a fabulous week long vacation in Puerto Rico. I found Catch a Dream ranch online. José was very professional and gave clear directions on where to meet him. (His prices were much better than the Hacienda Carabali ranch nearby. On a previous vacation I did a horseback ride there and it's also a great place w/ awesome people). Anyway, José was very punctual. there was one other couple riding w/ him. we had a car rental so we just followed him/them up to his ranch. the other reviews about his ranch not being fancy or much to look at are true but we weren't there to hang out at the ranch lol. he gave a thorough instruction to us on how to properly direct our horse. he told us he's not good w/ names so he'd call us by our horses name if he needed to address us. I loved that! we thought it was so cute. I got to ride Sire, my bf rode Coco, the other dude rode Brown Sugar & his chick rode Captain Jack. we started out thru a jungle type place, w/ muddy trails. his one stable dog, a black female, followed along & was very entertaining. we all enjoyed her hanging w/ us for the ride. when we finally got to the beach it was beautiful. my only thing is I wish he'd have allowed us to stop & splash around in the water a bit. but that's not part of his tour I guess. when we stopped on the beach, he used our cameras to take pix of us. and he did a great job! he must've taken about 10 pix and every one of them came out good. he did better w/ my camera than I do lol. throughout the ride he checked on each of us, asked us if we were ok. he cracked jokes. we all thought he was a pretty funny guy. he has a dry sense of humor. we liked that. we will definitely return to his ranch for another horseback ride on our next trip to PR. :-)
Jose’s place in Rio Grande is nothing to write home about. From his rude attitude to his wreckless driving when picking us and dropping us off at the hotel to the poor quality of the ranch and horses. Some we noticed had untreated wounds. The towels used under the saddles appear to have gone for days without washing. The ranch had poor maintenance and we were followed by 8 of his dogs on the ride which were getting into fights along the way with other dogs. Yes, the beach was nice but no one with or without kids wants to put at risk their safety or health in exchange for a horse ride. We would not recommend this place. Found out thru road sign another place "Carabali" which is far more professional, better quality and nicer beach ride. We booked direct, instead of thru a third party which cost more.
Me, Wife and 8 yo daughter had GREAT ride with jose thru the rainforest and out onto the beach along the ocean. Great experience, would not hesitate to recommend. Jose also took some great photos of our family.
Horseback riding on the beach! This was so much more enjoyable than trail rides we've done in past years. We got a great mini lesson on how to control the horses and they were extremely well trained. The ride through the rainforest was gorgeous. Riding on the beach was magical. Our guide gave a great tour and took some great photos of us.
