We recently stayed in Jamaica (Ocho Rios) for the first time and, thanks to Trip Advisor, found Jamiacan Routes as an option for tour guide services. We spoke with Gabby prior to our departure to discuss what we were hoping to see. I had no idea what to expect because I had never been out of the United States before. Gabby was truly amazing and all of the positive reviews here don't come close to describing how wonderful the quiet, yet informative man that has lived his life on the island of Jamaica really was. He let me ask as many questions as I wanted about the life and culture of Jamaica. We enjoyed fresh coconut (with the jelly), avacado's that were "fit", honey bananas and my favorite Soursop, right on the side of the road. We enjoyed the best Jerk Chicken at Little David's Jerk Centre just outside of Port Antionio near a beautiful place he recommended we visit called Boston Beach. He was also a part of a marriage proposal for which I'm truly grateful because he took some really beautiful pictures with our camera. I had no idea it was happening and he was able to capture the moment perfectly at the spot he recommended...Boston Beach.Thank you Gabby!!! We will meet again. One Love - The Sun, The Moon and the Stars at noon November 10, 2014Much love and respect,Brian and Christine
Another perfect review for Gabby! We found him online at the last minute after Orbitz tried to extort additional payment from us for the travel service we had booked with our package. How fortunate! He picked up my girlfriend and I at the airport and, from then on, we were set. Gabby took us through Lucea on our way to the hotel and introduced us to the local market and got our cash exchanged and some cell phone minutes. It was an immediate introduction to the people and food of the country. We ended up spending a couple days at our AI resort before getting the itch to go out and check out things. We called up Gabby and he had us to Rick's for the sunset that evening. The next day we hit Appleton Estates and the Pelican Bar. All along the way, Gabby was able to answer all our questions about the people, government, culture, and history. And, in true American fashion, every time we asked about food, Gabby had a place to find great produce or jerk chicken. On the flight home, we could not stop talking about how fortunate we had been to come across Gabby. His guidance was key to our interacting with everyone outside the resort and getting the most out of our short stay. Even if you are planning on mostly staying at a resort -- which was mostly our plan -- call Gabby when you do go out and about.Gabby is punctual, knowledgeable, friendly, and an all around expert. I'd go on and on about our experience with him but it's not necessary. He runs a top-notch service and you're sure to be in good hands if you go with Jamaican Routes.
What an amazing experience! We saw, we touched, we tasted Jamaica. Gabby took us to all the "tourist" attractions we wanted to see, he recommended a few more we didn't know about, then, he took us to the "market" where we wandered around, ate different fruits, drank a smoothie and were exposed to the very different culture than ours here at home. It was just wonderful. He gave us history lessons and adventures all in one. If we ever get back there, Jamaican Routes will be our first call to make sure we have the best guide on the island.
I hope I am not confusing travel agencies. I want to write a review about Jamaican Routes. Mr. Joel Richardson, 855-246-7710, http://www.jamaicanroutes.com/.Joel is the most honest, professional, resolute, nice, helpful and organized tour guide in the whole entire country of Jamaica. He always kept his word, provided the promised or booked services, informed in the best way possible about routes and facilities and is a very trustable person. Book your holidays with him, you won't regret it. There are some Jamaican tour guides/agencies that just lie in absolutely everything they promise before you arrive in the country and then the trip turns into a nightmare. Everything crystal clear with Joel and his partner.
Miss P,You were a pleasure to host here in sunny Jamaica. Please come back. We know you will and someday bring your medical professionalism and compasion with you!Wishing you well in your endeavors. Gabby and Joel
Gabby picked my friend and me up at the airport in Montego Bay. My friend was supposed to arrive with me at 1:00 p.m. but didn't make it to Jamaica until almost midnight. Gabby hosted me in Montego Bay the entire day while we waited for her flight to arrive. We had a great lunch and hung out. He's an interesting conversationalist and I enjoyed our conversations immensely. Another day, he drove to Negril, picked us up and took us to YSL Falls, Pelican Bar and then dinner at a great open-air restaurant in west Negril. We had such a fun day together. The day he picked us up to take us back to Montego Bay, he took us around Lucea and we spent some time in the marketplace there (the photo is of Gabby peeling fruit we purchased at the marketplace for our breakfast). After dropping my friend off at the hotel in Montego Bay, he took me to Rose Hall Great House for a great tour and then an early dinner/late lunch at a small fish restaurant. We laughingly called Gabby our security but it was true. No one ever bothered us with Gabby by our side. I recommend him wholeheartedly.
We visited Jamaica back in September, for a first visit I found it informative and enjoyable . I am now planning my second visit.Thank you Denton for a most enjoyable tour of your island
Wow. 10 days cruising Jamaica. What a great safe way to see the real Jamaica. I highly recommend Gabby as your go to tour guide. Gabby was punctual patient and kind. He brought us all over the island and gave us a good outline of Jamaica, History and politics You will feel at ease with his driving . I was also impressed with how many people he knew on the island. Some of his friends we had the pleasure of meeting. I cant say enough about Gabby and his tour services..Do yourself a favor and call Gabby and tell him Paul says hi.
We had the pleasure of having Gabby drive us from our resort in Negril to the airport in Montego Bay. It was a very relaxing, enjoyable and educational 90 minutes! He explained the sites, offered details about the history of many of the towns we drove through and made us feel very safe and comfortable. I would highly recommend paying Gabby to take you on a tour of Jamaica. We would also recommend using his services to get to and from the airport rather than relying on the resorts transportation. It was an excellent way to end our very excellent vacation.
From the first moment that Gabby (owner of Jamaican Routes) pulled-up in front of our hotel in Montego Bay until our tearful goodbye, we were treated like visiting royalty. Gabby's warmth, humor and intelligence make him your perfect guide in Jamaica. Not only did we laugh...a lot...but we also learned so much and were able to see wonderful parts of the island that, had we stayed sheltered in our all-inclusive hotel, we would have missed. He has a new, clean, comfortable vehicle and we spent many hours touring between Montego Bay and Negril. He took us to a hidden mountaintop bird sanctuary where long-tailed hummingbirds (the national bird) perched on our outstretched fingers daintily drinking from small bottles of sugar water. We cruised the coastline and saw how and where the local Jamaicans live, work and play. With the sun shining, the breezes blowing, reggae music playing and the beautiful lilt of Gabby's voice telling us stories along the way, we were in heaven. We spent a few hours at a small beachfront establishment (hotel, bar, shop) where they grill lobsters freshly caught from the sea, serve coconuts right from the tree, and offer great conversation and warm company. We stopped at a beautiful lighthouse on the far western tip of the island where we met some young men who showcased their bravery by jumping from the cliffs for a small donation. We simply couldn't miss a stop at the world-famous Rick's Bar for cocktails and entertainment. In between all of these wonderful stops, we saw such beautiful scenery, wildlife and gorgeous vistas. Anywhere we wanted to jump out and snap a photo, Gabby pulled over. He even showed us his home and introduced us to his beautiful daughter. The next day, we attended an event - Poetry and High Tea - at the university in Montego Bay...the result of meeting (through Gabby) a U.S. poet who was invited to read his work for the students. What a wonderful event! To meet the director of the university, the students and other attendees was truly a one-of-a-kind experience. We felt safe, well-cared-for and blessed while we were with Gabby. He is professional and savvy while also being one of the coolest, most interesting people we've ever met. This was our first trip to Jamaica but we already have a plan to return next year with our kids and to spend a week having more adventures with Gabby. I cannot recommend him and his company more highly. Whether it's simply roundtrip airport service or days of adventure, you will not be disappointed. We feel as though we now have family in Jamaica and you will too. Thank you, Gabby, our brother and friend. We love you. You're simply the best, mon!
Gabby picked me up from the airport and drove me to my hotel in Negril. It was a most comfortable, safe and pleasant 1 hour trip. While en route, I asked to stop for lunch and he took me to this small restaurant in a most gorgeous spot that served yummy local seafood.Throughout the trip, Gabby described the sites, history of the island and the local flavor while Bob Marley was singing on the radio. It was Bob's birthday that week and there was celebration every day.I also had Gabby take me back to the airport - he was prompt and professional.
We enjoyed hosting jayplunk very much. He was enthusiastic and had interesting office hours at Doctor's Cave Beach. I dont know how he got so much done and still managed to get a savage tan!!!Thanks for the review and please come back soon to visit you private tour guide at Jamaican Routes.com
