We really liked this small theatre with probably 500 seating capacity. This is located in New Kingston, so very safe. The staff were plenty and actually worked to assist you, the patron. They take major credit cards. The performances were excellent and they give group rates- so ask. There is a refreshment stand just outside the theater and available during intermission. I will definitely come here again in the future.
I have been taking university students to see the annual Pantomime for twenty-five years and was back this January 2015. It was one of the funniest I can remember in years and our group loved it, Boonoonoos is a great musical for all ages and there is not a bad seat in the house.
The Little Theatre offers Jamaicans the opportunity to see plays and dance companies in a relatively comfortable environment. I go almost annually to see the National Dance Theatre Company, which was the purpose of my July 2014 visit. The theatre lobby is modest and the seats could be more comfortable, the the entertainment at The Little Theatre is reliably good - and sometimes very special. The programme the night I visited was good - a combination of standard NDTC dances and new numbers that were avant garde and compelling.
The play tells the story of a christian family. The characters were clever to make the themes come alive. The husband fell prey to drugs and the entire family suffered. Good play with real life struggles.
This is great little theatre. There is always something showing... dance recitals for local dance studios, a concert, or a play. Most of the plays are written by local playwrights and give a bit of local flavour and insight into Jamaican culture. There's a real mix of English and Patois in the plays, but I've found that the locals are quite willing to translate. And Jamaicans are a very interactive audience, so they are almost as much fun to watch as the actors themselves!
Saw the National Dance company perform (sorry, I don't think this is their name, I've forgotten). Great facility, very charming.
You cannot go to Kingston or its environs without a trip to any play in progress at the LT. variety, culture and if you understand the language, lots of laughs!
This year the pantomime is so much better them previous years I must encourage visitors to Kingston to go and see it. The dances, singing and costumes are so much improved it is a pleasure to watch while showing the plight of a rural community with few job prospects and the political angle. The show runs until May 2014
