This place is just magical. We came here after a short tour in Nanny Town. The falls are about a half an hour hike and so worth it. The waterfall plunges into a deep pool which is great for swimming in. Really peaceful too, we were the only people there!
We hiked up the road out of Mooretown until we reached the falls (45 min?). It was a beautiful secluded spot to swim and relax.
Nanny Falls, named after the Maroon woman who led escaping slaves to freedom in the mountains, is accesible from Port Antonio. In Port Antonio, go to William Street and catch a taxi up to Mooretown. Beautiful mountain ride. 45 min. Take taxi to last stop. Ask for guides Marvin and Shane. They will take you to the Falls through jungly terrain until you reach the sacred waters of Nanny Falls. They will tell you the history of the Maroons and take pride in their heritage. The water is clear, pure, and cleansing. The hike is not a stroll in the park but we are in our 60s and with guides help made it just fine. Wear old clothes, swim suit, shoes boots will get muddy. No bugs ti speak of. After hike they took us to the town's museum and gave a great little tour. Also with advance notice they gather town men who perform drumming fo you. Next time I go I am going to do this. We paid the guides $10 each. This is an all day trip.
