While in Treasure Beach we went fishing with Captain Joseph one morning. We caught several Kingfish! We always felt safe and well taken care of. He suggested that we take the fish back to the hotel chef for preparation for our dinner that night, which we did, and it was so fresh and wonderful. We had such a good time with him that we signed up for his afternoon beach/lunch trip. He took us to a secluded beach near the Pelican Bar where we were served a wonderful lunch of lobster, fish, vegetables, etc. as well as wine, beer, or whatever we wanted. We spent the afternoon walking the beach and enjoying the sun and warm water at a protected cove looking out at the Pelican Bar. Captain Joseph works hard to please and we highly recommend you talk with him to plan an outing or two!
The best tour i have had in Jamaica... We went to Black River and the Pelican Bar. I usually get sea sick but as Captain Joseph said " No problem man you will be fine on my boat , i promise you" well i was a ok on the entire trip... He was very educated about all aspects of the trip and super friendly.Im going back to Treasure Beach in the fall so i cannot wait to do the all inclusive day trip he offers. Thanks again for the best excursion i have been on.... From Cheryl and Denise
Had a great time with Joseph and Rascime. The best meal I had was on this day. A lobster to die for. A beautiful walk on a secluded beach then to the Pelican bar. Thaks for a great day everyone
We took a boat ride to Pelican bar with Captain Joseph. Amazing time, great boat and Captain Joseph made it even more special. If you travel with him ask him to sing you a song! Well recommended. Becky & Ian UK
My boyfriend and I were looking to take a trip to Pelican Bar after reading some great press about this middle-of-the-ocean bar. We heard Captain Joseph was the best, so we did no further research and asked our hotel to call him. We called around 10AM and he said he'd grab us from Calabash Bay at 11:30. The islands must be getting more sensitive to their tourists' culture, because he was right on time! He scooped us right up, and spent the ride there pointing out the different bays of Treasure Beach and his spot, which he built, where he served lobster dinner. We arrived at the bar and he notified us that the tour was 2.5-3 hrs long, which we didn't know, but that was perfect. We had an AMAZING time at Pelican Bar, truly one of the top 5 places I've seen in the world, and the ride home was a blast! Choppy, wet, fast- it was like it's own excursion. The only reason I'm not giving Captain Joseph 5 stars is because he seemed a little standoffish as compared to what we expected. We had a great time, just wish we got to know him better! FYI it's $80 for this trip. Beer at the bar is $4, cocktails are $8. Each dish is $16 and you are supposed to order in advance (I suppose through Captain Joseph) but we were served delicious lobster anyhow- AND they split it into two plates for us. Great value!
one of the reasons to venture to the st. elizabeth/treasure beach area of jamaica is grabbing an opportunity to experience a more laid back, less overwrought tourist reality - the feeling that you are welcome guests of real people. captain joseph, his family & crew helped make this happen. from the moment we were picked up at the dock at jake's for the private beach cookout, his warmth & expertise were evident. i could try to describe the clarity & sparkle of the water, the sense of wonder at having a pristine tropical beach as a personal sandbox, the first delicious taste of an ice cold red stripe as you stand in balmy, gently lapping surf, but i couldn't do it justice. and then there was the food. also more red stripe. and wine. and some homemade punch. perhaps you get the idea - if you find yourself in the neighborhood, treat yourself and give the good captain a "holla"
We loved our day on the water with Captain Joseph at Treasure Beach! Discovering the Pelican Bar, enjoying an elegant gourmet lunch on a private undeveloped beach and seeing the dolphins right beside the boat! You can't go to treasure beach without spending a day with Captain Joseph!
We were from Calabash Bay to Pelican Bar with Captain Joseph. We keep a great souvenir of this trip... On the way we even saw dolphins jumping alongside the boat, a great moment ... the bar is downright amazing and they prepare excellent cocktails ...
Capt Joseph took my wife and I to the pelican bar from jakes hotel. He was extremely friendly and knowledgable of the local area. He picked us up on time with his brother in law who helped us on board. Capt Joseph followed all life preserver rules and did not drink while on our trip. Very safety conscious. Along the way to the pelican bar he showed us where he serves his private beach dinner. It looked fantastic and we will book this next trip. He also has several lobster trAps along the way, he pulled up a few traps and found lobsters, fish and 1 angry eel! It was one of the best parts of the vacation! Thanks Captain Joseph! See you next time for dinner! Highly recommended!
Captain Jo took us on his boat to the Pelican bar. On our way there we had the unique chance to see dolphins ! Captain Jo took his time so that we could observe them and take pictures! It was awesome!Captain Jo is a very nice man who loves his country. His good mood is contagious !
This man and his family are the best. My husband and I took a day trip with him to a remote beach for lunch, surf, sun, and fun. His wife cooked lobster and fish for us right on the beach. It was delicious. We went swimming in the ocean, took a long walk on the beach, and had a fantastic time. My husband and I are older and not as agile as we used to be. It didn't matter. Captain Joseph made sure we were assisted every step of the way. What a true gentleman. Got to see dolphins and went to the Pelican Bar. What a fun place. Loved every minute.
Thank you Captain Joseph! We had a wonderful day! First we went to the Black River and the Captain knows so much about it, that he could tell us about the history, the plants, the animals....really interesting! Then we went to the awesome Pelican Bar...that is a piece of paradise over there :)...and because of our Captain (he organised it, told them that we wanna come and have lunch), we had a delicious meal! All in all it was a beautiful and really funny trip :) So if you are in Treasure Beach (you should come here) you know where to get an amazing boat trip :)
Captain Joseph is the nicest guy! We had him take us to the pelican bar. He pointed out landmarks, beaches, and houses along the way. He knows everything along the coast! My only regret is that I hadn't set aside the time to do his all day beach BBQ. Next time!
Book Captain Joseph for the Pelican Bar. You can also talk to Zeb S. at Jakes about others to use if Captain Joseph is booked. Before you go, make sure Pelican Bar is stocked up on food and beverages. We heard they had a big group out the day before some folks we knew were going and they didn't have much available. Just ask the Captain ahead of time, then no surprises. It's Jamaica, not the USA.
My husband and I travel to Treasure Beach annually and never miss a chance to go on an excursion with Captain Joseph. Whether you venture to the Black River or the private beach Kingfish cookout, you're sure to have a memorable Jamaican experience! One Love for Joseph and his crew!
