I have to wonder about 2 reviews that give this beautiful place an average rating? The only thing I can figure is that they were expecting one of these god awful, man made, zipline adventure type parks. If that is your expectation, Abeokuta is not for you. If, however, you want a place that isn't swarmed by tourists, that has beautiful grounds and some amazing, fascinating history... go, you won't be disappointed. This is my second visit and it was as peaceful and beautiful as I remember. We brought a few newbies with us and I can attest that they enjoyed every minute of it. We started with a "water massage" under the pool run off. Then a swim in the pool - and a swing, just for fun. Then we sat along the end of the pool and let the little fish nibble at our feet (so cool). Then we took a beautiful walk around the grounds, taking pictures of the biggest poinsettia and bamboo trees I have ever seen. We needed to get out of the sun for awhile, so we headed up to the giant gazebo (where lunch is served) and had Sheera make us a nice cold bevvie. We were fortunate that our driver and friend were playing a game of domino's and were willing to teach us... or BEAT us, I should say! Truly memorable. Then it was time for lunch. Mmmmmm. Delicious! It's pretty standard Jamaica fare, but it tastes so good having been cooked over the open fire and served in this environment... it's like the best picnic you'll ever have. You will not find a gift shop here, or a store nearby, or multitudes of adventurous things to do. You will find a peaceful, serene, almost magical place. A place to relax. A place to explore. A place to meet some neat locals, with interesting stories. A place to close your eyes and remember why you are on vacation and why you chose Jamaica. My only hesitation in recommending Abeokuta is my fear that too many people will discover this paradise. Thank you Annie and Andrew. Soon come back!
Although I have been around Jamaica for 20 plus years. I have just recently discovered Abeoduta Paradise Nature Park. WOOOW What a great place to spend the day in nature, in mineral water, and taking the river walk is always recommended. The staff at APNP is beyond what you could ask for. The staff knows your ever need almost before you do. Please plan a day of fun and relaxation at APNP. Bring your swim suit and towel. Some comfortable walking shows. Be prepared to have the most wonderful peaceful day. Please plan on a meal at this wonderful place. As meals are prepaired to order and does take some time to cook. (all is cooked fresh). Make sure to call ahead to make your meal reservations. Meal costs do very but are very very reasonable. Does not matter if you are a new comer to Jamaica or have returned for many years and many times. Abeokuta is a must.
This place was very hard to find, they could use some signs on the road that point the way. Such a relaxing beautiful place....the pool with the little fish freaked me out a bit when I put my feet in but after a few minutes it was actually pretty cool. Had a great tour of the area from our guide Henry. Such a nice knowledgable guy. Had a lunch to end the day which was delicious chicken. Gave most of my lunch to the sweet puppies there. If you go there bring these little sweeties some food. They are seriously skinny, maybe on the verge of starving. I wanted to take them with me. Other than the starving pups, it was a great place.
The feeling I get when I go to this place is amazing. The water is exhilarating at first then a calmness. I laughed when everyone was hugging the Meditation Tree but it was amazing the energy that I felt from the tree. The Natural shower that massages the back is my favourite part. Lunch was wonderful. The chicken was so tasty but what I loved was all the raw crunchy vegetables. Just can't get good food like this in Negril. big up to the Chef! The staff are as friendly as ever, but not intrusive. However nothing was a problem when we wanted something. Not to forget the ice cold red stripes to wash the chicken down. This is a wonderful experience!
Upon looking at the pictures online, this place seemed to be more than it actually was. Although when we got there, the staff was great and we went on a nice hike, it was a little deceiving. Took us a little while to get there by taxi and the pool was amazing, but we just felt a little underwhelmed.
I cannot believe how many people had no idea what/ where this was! Once we got there we had the most relaxing and pleasant afternoon. The rasta owner offered a tour of the property which included a walk through the woods, around the original homestead and along an aqua duct. The water ran from the mountainside through the aqua duct and along into the large pool with the option of deflecting the water's flow into a smaller wading pool. The water was cold and refreshing and the minnows in the larger pool tickled your toes as they "cleaned" your feet. The property is family owned and it was nice to see how gorgeous their property was maintained. We opted to have lunch during our stay and I must say that it was the most flavorful chicken I have experienced in a while....a tasty relaxing meal while enjoying the beauty of the park. For the most part, we had the park to ourselves with an occasional visitor. There was a rope swing hanging over the pool but we did not try it. The restrooms are apparently a work in progress but we managed ok. Overall, a very mellow and enjoyable day.
This is my third year in a row celebrating my birthday at Abeokuta. This time I brought my family and friends. We had the best time ever! Its just something about the limestone pool the good vibes and the good food that keeps me coming back. The Chef makes the best food. Thank you so much Ann for making my birthday celebration so memorable. One love and I will definitely be back!
Six weeks ago, we were in Negril. it's taken me this long to write a review as I didn't want to leave and it was too hard to think about it too much on our return! Now that I'm settled back into normal life, I am feeling ready to write. If you are of independent mind and spirit you absolutely must visit Abeokuta if you are visiting the Negril area. contact them via Facebook and you will get a response from the wonderful Annie. This was our second trip to Negril and we just had to return to Abeokuta. Annie will arrange a fantastic day out with lunch, massages from Lettie and river walks. This time we just went for a few hours in the afternoon and lazed around the amazing mountain water fed pool (huge, cool and revitalising) with some good rum and the best company in Annie and Andrew. Our teenage sons played in the pool like toddlers and loved being back there. The wonderful owner, brother Man, kindly slowed the gushing water from the springs to allow our sons to have an incredible shower in one of the fantastic wee waterfalls. This place is a must if you are someone who wants to see some real Jamaican hospitality. I cannot recommend it highly enough. One love x
Group of friends from negril. We went to this park and it was very relaxing. Great lunch. Staff were very helpful and friendly.
If you want to experience something unique and relaxing near Negril I would recommend Abeokuta. Bring your camera for the luscious flowers and spectacular views. And don't forget your swimsuit for the refreshing aqua mineral pool.
Wow! First let me thank Annie, Andrew (Angel), Sheera, Roxy and Brotherman for a fabulous day. The park is incredible and the very best thing about it is that it is not a typical tourist trap. It is quiet and prestine. The views were beautiful and the foliage was just breathtaking. I have travelled alot and this has to be one of the most beautiful island mountain properties I have ever seen. You will not find a souvenier shop, or have to take pictures around hundreds of other tourists. No giant tour buses pulling up or hustlers near the entrance. Tranquil. You can go anywhere on the property and find a spot to relax and take it all in. There is a healing/meditation tree near the pool... hug it for a few minutes, you won't regret it. Friends organized a meal for us which was served after our swim and walk around the property. I can not even put into words how good this chicken was. Andrew treats it with such love that every mouthful is like heaven. I'm going back just for the chicken alone. (I will give a good tip, if you haven't heard this already, DO NOT go anywhere in Jamaica hungry! Everything takes time, so pack a snack or eat a really big breakfast before you head out.) I could give so many details, but Abeokuta is really beyond description. You must see it. See BarryLee post for Delroy taxi's info. He was our driver and he was great!Brother Man 001-876-891-0837
We have been to Abeokuta 4 times now and it is still one of our favourite places to visit. Ann, Andrew ,Brother Man and Shera see to the fine details that make your visit memorable. The food is very good and lots of it. A massage ,nature walk and swimming in the pure clean mineral water will totally relax every bone in your body. This is a must go to adventure. Give Delroy ( Sagittarius ) a call @ 3975319 and he will take you there in his spotless, air conditioned diesel tour bus.
A beautiful day off the beaten track and off the beach. Thanks to a chance meeting with Annie on the beach the day before we were able to have an incredible day of peace and tranquility. Just a short drive from Negril, thanks to Annie and her husband we were able to experience Abeokuta Paradise Nature Park. Bredda Man was very welcoming there is a calm relaxed energy there. He took us on a nice nature walk where he informed us on all the lush plants growing on the property and where the natural spring starts. We relaxed in the mineral pool while getting a fish pedicure that tickled a lot and took awhile to get use to. Then Bredda Man helped us into the falls after he slowed the waterfall down from the main pool so we were able to sit in it without getting wiped out. We then had an amazing pulsating massage from the water. I reluctantly (just because it was nice to be the only ones there with no other tourists, like Y's was in 1990) but I do recommend this place as a must see if you are in Negril. The only thing I would like to do next time, and there will be a next time I hope is to stay a little longer. If you are lucky enough to have Annie, Andrew and Bredda Man be your hosts it will be a very memorable day. Thank you guys
It's the place to go to get away from it all and enjoy nature..the best that God has to give. From the scenic views to the free fish pedicure in the ancient natural pool..it gets no better. The food was great and so was the staff, especially Ann, loved her. I would recommend this to anyone who goes to Negril and wants to get away from the "touristy" attractions. You will not be disappointed, it is definitely a paradise on earth.
I love this place so much, I had to come back again for my birthday! I did not want to party for my birthday and I knew this would be the perfect place to take in the views and just reflect on my 39 years of living. Ann, (have I told u I love u lately...lol) arranged for me to be taken up there. Her husband was the driver, and let me tell you.....between the both of them i couldn't have felt any safer and secure! We stopped at Celia's bar/resturant (which is a must do also) before going to Abeokuta. I could write a whole review in itself about Celia (but I won't).......She's just a very beautiful deep spiritual woman who touches my soul everytime I see her! We arrived at Abeokuta and it started raining, but that did'nt even matter. In fact, it made Abeokuta even more magical and more beautiful! I took in the views, prayed/meditated and even cried because I was so touched by its beauty. After reflecting on life, I jumped in the mineral pool where i had one of the best laughs with Ann (I won't say why lol). This place is soooooooooo spiritual and beautiful. I will definately be back!
