We visited Bight Reef in late February, having visited for the first time three years ago. The reef provides a great opportunity to see lots of interesting underwater life without having to book a snorkelling or scuba tour. Great for families and others who want to try snorkelling without investing in a longer experience. It is really quite amazing that you can walk in a few metres off the beach and see plenty of tropical fish, turtles, rays and other sea life. Great experience.
Highly recommend especially for novice snorkelers. Excellent snorkelling just steps off the shore. Roped off area to protect the reef that takes about 30 mins to navigate around. Color, size, and quantity of fish and also coral is excellent. Regular turtle and Ray sightings as well as lots of parrotfish, triggerfish, snapper, damselfish, etc. Great off the beach snorkelling!
When we went to bight reef (also known as Coral Gardens) the visibility was poor and the water was choppy with a bit of a current so it was difficult to really enjoy the small reef there. Although this spot is closer to the hotels on Grace bay, if you are serious about snorkeling, you must take a 20 minute cab ride over to Smith's reef as the visibility is much better and there is so much more to see including spotted eagle rays, and turtles. Pack a lunch and find a tree to camp out in front of and enjoy an afternoon. Look for the beach entry by the wooden lookout.
This is a blast. Offers a local fare, great food, a break from the high prices, and a party atmosphere.
I was here on a windy day, yet managed to snorkel several hundred yards from shore. Hard to find in the AM being there isn't a lot of snorkelers or signs. This was much more alive the Coral gardens, with a bunch of great fish/coral/ etc. to see. Had a great experience except for drinking a few waves along the way. I want to go back and explore it more being its more than 1 reef.
Nice reef but being rebuilt and is roped off, you will still see some great coral and fishes. Take your time and go around it a couple of times, I saw a Manta the second time around. There is a bar/food joint right on the beach in front of the reef. Good food, great drinks.
Great for snorkeling, especially if your a beginner like myself. Very easy to get to and just walk in off the beach so anyone that's not a great swimmer would enjoy this! Lots of fish and beach was beautiful too!
Great place to snorkel and horseback ride. Can be a bit choppy to easily snorkel, at least when we were there. But saw a lot of fish, corals and just a short distance off the beach. Would definitely go there on our next visit!
It is on grace beach, best place for snorkeling, just be careful around robes in the water as you get sting from it with blisters on the skin.
Not sure what happened... We read the reviews. We have 2 very hesitant snorkelers for daughters and from the reviews we thought it would be perfect for them. The visibility was awful the current was very strong, the beach was overcrowded and the facilities were non existent ! Do not waste your time unless we were there at a terrible time- February 16th 10 am? Completely a waste of time and effort!!!!
Bad weather canceled our plans to sail out to the reefs offshore, so I rented snorkel equipment from Dive Provo. Even though the water was kind of choppy from the weather the first day, the water remained fairly clear and I was able to see lots of fish - green parrotfish and several other species. Don't try it without flippers, especially if the water is choppy at all. The second day was a bust, as the weather had finally stirred up the sediment and cut visibility even on a sunny day.
This is a relatively small reef, which is very close to shore and protected by rope buoys. It is perfect for the novice snorkeler to view the colorful fish, aquatic life and coral.
Just down the beach from Beaches. Lots of cool terrain. Home to at least a few sea turtles. Barracudas galore. Some tropical fish. Worth the walk!
We loved that you could snorkel right off the beach. We saw yellow snappers, lion fish, flounder and trumpet fish. Coral was beautiful.
It's a nice trail roped off in a circle that you follow while you are snorkeling. It feels really safe and anyone can do it. I did find myself sitting in one place for a little bit because the current was strong and I wasn't swimming fast enough. I didn't notice until I looked up.
