My mother and I visited the Bruce County Museum & Cultural Center to pursue some family ancestry research at the Bruce County Archives. The archivist named Deb Sturdevant was absolutely amazing in helping us discover our family history in the area. After two days of discovery in the archives (white gloves and all), we left only a fraction of an afternoon (literally just before closing time) to peruse the museum. Despite our rush through the exhibit, we were thoroughly impressed the permanent historical displays. An outdoor wedding had just taken place on the museum's terrace that weekend, as well, and it looked like to it was absolutely stunning location for the event. Both the inside and outside of the building were impeccably designed and built. Vey beautiful and well done. I highly recommend visiting the museum as part of any trip to Southampton or the area.

This was an amazing museum well worth the visit. It took several hours to view all the displays on several floors. They included history on the region spanning the First nations and the settlers. There was a reconstructed pioneer shop and display about the spread of the use of telephones. There was also an exhibition about ship wrecked HMS Gen Hunter. In the grounds were a period schoolhouse, hut and lighthouse.

Lots to see in this museum. We ended up spending 2 hours going through the whole museum. Thoroughly enjoyed every minute.

Timing was everything with our visit to the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Center! Visiting on the Explore the Bruce kick-off party meant that the area was bustling with activity and along with the great Dinosaur exhibit and historic school house, there was the annual butter tart contest (and who doesn't absolutely love butter tarts). We went back about a month later and even on a run of the mill day, the staff was exceptionally friendly. The facility itself is beautiful, and the exhibits available are surprisingly diverse! A great place to explore on a rainy day, or to take a break from the afternoon sun!

You wouldn't expect to find an excellent museum in this small town but there it is! From the early indigenous peoples exhibit, to the excellent pioneer collection and the War of 1812 artifacts and model ship, you will find lots to occupy yourself and the family for an afternoon.

Some museums try to be all things to all people. While they certainly have exhibits for everyone they specialize in things for kids. While we were there a dinosaur display was being enjoyed by the little ones. They also have a short talk and 'firing' of the replica cannon aboard the replica warship that the kids really liked. Upstairs there is enough history to bring the stories to life for the grownups. Outside is a relocated and restored 'pioneer village' where you can walk through a house and gain a sense of the times. The nearby school is set up just as it would have been in Queen Victoria's reign. If you're in the area and have kids keep this attraction in mind, especially if you get a rainy day.

Took my kids during summer vacation to see the featured exhibit, dinosaurs. The kids thoroughly enjoyed it and there are many hands on activities for the kids to enjoy. We also checked out the other floors and exhibits. The Bruce one is cool as is the neat fossils and there is even a man made iceberg you can touch. We enjoyed 'firing of the cannon' on the replica of the HMCS boat and there are craft stations also. Great place to go, my kids didn't want to go home and we spent almost 2 hours there.

My two boys love going to the museum. Always something there for the kids to do and their summer activities are great. We just saw the dinosaur exhibit and had allot of fun.

This museum is a great place. You can go to it more than once a year. They always have new displays and interactive things o do. They often bring in shows from somewhere else. Love the place.

Although many activities are geared for kids, which are all great by the way, there are also a variety of cultural events to enjoy.

Basic museum. A few artifacts and some reading to do. Nothing you could not find on a quick search on the internet. Art show was definitely not my thing. Very amateurish in my opinion, and all with huge price tags.

For a small town, this is a very nice museum with many interesting exhibits. There are frequent events including the occasional lunches on a back patio overlooking a small lake. Cute little gift shop as well. It would be nice if they offered more guided tours with story telling to accompany the exhibits.

I did not think the museum was that great , for a small town ya it's okay I guess but it's not very big and there is not much to do my children got very bored very easy they asked mommy when can we leave that's not really what you wanna hear when you get charged 10$ a person for 5 people

Exhibits are frequently changed and all are well presented. It's a beautiful facility to visit. An architectural blend of new and old.
