Growing up in Northwestern Ontario locals know this place as the Dorion Fish Hatchery. Here over 600,000 fish a year are grown and released into lakes in Ontario. Tours are given during the weekdays and it is best to call ahead and book a time for a tour. I brought my kids for a tour and was amazed at how big the place had grown since the 1970’s. The numerous tanks for the variety of fish and the high tech feeding tubes set up in this operation. Because of the worry of bringing in unwanted bugs/bacteria, there are special foot pads you need to step on entering and exiting the fish tanks, so you need to wear closed shoes or runners, not sandals. At the end of the tour there was a lunch room with many historical pictures on the walls of the history of the hatchery and my children were allowed to pick some colouring books and stickers to take with them of their tour.
