Interesting small museum in Fort Frances. I our way to USA we stopped to visit that museum. We saw an interesting porcelaine exihibits, a kind of historical story. On high floor a collection of interesting pieces telling about the people and place among the history. Even we did not stay too much time we have pleasant memories about we saw.
This is a great community asset although its size limits the type and size of exhibits that can be offered. Great source of information on local and area history and they offering great learning opportunities throughout the year especially for younger people. This museum is well worth visiting if you want to catch a glimpse of the past which dates back to the time when the explorers were heading west and when Native peoples were the onlyy inhabitants.
The collection is fairly small but covers al the local history from the native tribes - lovely samples of beadwork and native dress - to the forestry and mining operations. For those seeking family history, they also house some geneology archives. It takes less than an hour to see everything. They offer free postcards depicting the local area and have an elevator to get to the second floor display area. There is no set fee for this time of year but do of course take donations if you wish.
The museum is a small two story building on Scott Street ( Main Street) Fort Frances. It contains a series of exhibitions that portray the towns history and the roots of the forest industry. In the summer months visitors can also tour a logging boat and fire tower that are on the waterfront.
