the lookout tower

If you do not mind climbing lots of grated stairs, you will get a great view of both Fort Frances and International Falls. The River is beautiful!

The Lookout Tower has been relocated and upgraded. The new site has its benefits but the views are not that great as you are mostly seeing residential areas and not sites that make the area a great place to visit. It is only open in summer and the old Hallet Tug boat is the only other real attraction. The location across street from a woodyard is a distraction.Still worth a onetime visit if stopping in friendly Fort Frances, Ontario

The tower has been reconstructed and moved to the river front, right beside the Sorting Gap marina. Visitors can easily buy a ticket at the marina that will let them visit the Hallet, the tower (both on location) as well as the museum downtown. The waterfront at the tower is beautiful with a walkway, a playground for kids and hard ice cream cones in the summer (when the tower is open). It is a fun climb to the top with a great view.

You can climb the Tower or tour the Hallet on Fort Frances waterfront. The Tower is the best place to see great views of Fort Frances and Rainy Lake. The hike requires good footwear but isn't too far up for anyone to go.
