I've only played Smuggler's once, I'm a 12 handicap so I was able to enjoy the elevation challenges of the course! A great setting with rock outcroppings in the heart of the 1000 Islands. If you have the opportunity while there take time to dine at the Ivy Club, nice spot on the lake with large screened decks. If you enjoy golf, give Smuggler's a try on a sunny day you will not be disappointed!
I arrived late on Friday October 10, 2014 and the staff were great at getting me all checked in.The food was great and the scenery was amazing. Some things that I think need improvement are some aspects in the room. The room I was staying in had 2 large gouges in the drywall behind the door. The weather stripping on the bottom of the entrance was gone therefore letting cold air in over night, I had to set the thermostat at a higher level to compensate for the cold air entering the room. The sink in the bathroom was not seated correctly and therefore wobbly. The toilet had the same issue. It was lose and looked like someone had worked on it and not properly secured it to the floor. The shower curtain had holes in it.The tap for the shower was loose, as well as the shower head. I couldn't adjust the shower head unless water sprayed out of the joint area where it was screwed on.The cleaning staff had turned off both bathroom and room thermostats on my second night of being there and I had no idea there had turned it off. Ended up having a room that was about 10 degrees Celsius over night.Overall it was a relaxing weekend. I would say if these particular things were fixed I would have given a higher review.
The golf course, which matters , was fantastic. The range balls were many years old, some were split, it seemed like some economy course, but we paid over $100 to play. The club house was ok, but was almost cafeteria like. But all that is minor , the course was great, greens were in amazing shape.
Good value for the money. Nicely cut through the rocks with elevation changes. More than one signature hole. They will get my money again and again!
Quality golf course . Superb conditioning. Carved out of the Canadian Shield. Has hosted a canadian PGA tournament. The course layout is challenging for all levels of player. The scenmery is spectacular especially in the fall. The price is fair and carts have on board GPS.You will not be disappointed if you play this course !!
best in the area; very well maintained; well defined holes with many elevated tees; you won't be sorry to play this one! (I'm a 10 handicapper)
We had a beautiful clear blue sky day which did help, but we found this course to be very pretty. It was in great shape and the holes are interesting. I would rate it is medium in terms of difficulty. My only issue was the marking of the holes from the cart paths, they could use a few more arrows as in some spots there are forks in the path. We had a great day here.
I love this golf course. I golf there on occasion and if there is one thing that I would change if I could is the intimidating first hole. You have to go over a large ravine. Other than that, it is scenic and fun to play. A little pricey though. The hotdogs and drink at the half way mark are well worth the $5.If you have time, take a trip, reserve and enjoy a great round of golf. If you have the guts, try hitting your second shot over the water!!!
Starting from the first tee the vista's are outstanding. This course is challenging, well groomed, excellent greens and has a extremely nice layout. Good clubhouse with nice menu as well as a well supplied pro shop. Good practice range. Very reasonable price for a great course.
This is the fourth time that we have played this course, and I never get bored of it. Great design -- every hole has its own distinctive character. It's a great challenge, but by no means unfair. The fairways and greens were again in great shape, although there were still some minor effects of winter kill on a few greens. The sand could be better. It was quite crusty in a few bunkers. The green fee is reasonable if you play after 3 p.m., as we did, but, otherwise, a little pricey for the market it is in. They can get those prices because there are quite a number of Americans who come across the border to play it. We ate in the clubhouse afterwards. We enjoyed the rustic ambience, and the view of the river from the outside deck. The food was pub style and average in appeal. I had fish and chips, and my fish batter was a bit overdone. Oh, yes, the staff is very friendly and accommodating. All in all, a great experience.
This course was a delight to play. The staff was incredibly helpful in getting us out even after a scramble tournament was running late. This course plays over some wonderful terrane. Lots of elevated tees, dog legs and well placed hazards. Many of the longer holes are wide open and forgiving. A wonderful course that you will really love.
This was the third time we've played SG and each time is has thrown great challenges at us and provided fantastic vistas. The elevation changes make this course very enjoyable. Also the number of rocks on the course can play havoc with wayward shots. We typically do not stay at the Glen House (find the Gan Inn to be more enjoyable).
My favorite course! Absolutely no complaints! We travel as a group each Spring and Fall to take advantage of the Stay and Play packages with the Glen House. Such a great deal.Everyone at the golf club is always friendly and helpful. The restaurant is very pleasant with a nice wrap around balcony with quality food. The course is always in fantastic condition - kudos to your team!Smuggler's is part of Executive Golf now which makes a tee time during the week / weekends doable since it's so close to Ottawa.Keep up the great work everyone!See you in the Fall.
Played Smugglers Glen and stayed at Glen House Resort across the road (stay and play package). The course was amazing with challenging and scenic holes. The course staff very friendly and courteous.Planning to make this an annual event.
