We went to Hoggs Falls in the beginning of August and althought there was a bit of a walk along a trail to get to it, the falls was lovely to look at. The walk alone was enjoyable so the falls at the end of the trail was a bonus. If you have mobility issues, you might have difficulty since it is a dirt path, but otherwise it wasn't difficult to get to. The best of all was that it was free to go see.
We stopped at Hoggs Falls as we drove to Eugenia Falls. Glad we did, hidden little falls off the beaten path. Small parking area but free which is nice. Short little hike to the falls and impressive size of the falls. Strong flowing water helps out to. Perhaps because it had rained before we got there but just the smell of the forest and the falls made this trip heavenly. Strong green coloured trees plus the sounds of the rushing waters made these falls memorable. If I had more time and bug repelent I would have stayed longer.
The walk from our car took a little longer than the five minutes predicted by the guide, but it was totally do-able and worth it. The path and area are undeveloped, although there is a gravel road to the parking. We took a "shortcut" without realizing it -- a bit steep with lots of tree roots. My stick and steady-handed husband really helped. Once there, we found a place to sit (rocks, downed tree) and gazed in awe for quite a while. Of the three waterfalls today, this is the most beautiful. It's wide with lots of rushing water, and the setting is totally natural. Magnificent mixed forest including cedars and ferns. Our short "hike" back was easier than in. We found the yellow posts which marked a gravel road back to the parking. A little longer around than the earlier steep hill, but much safer for anyone unsteady on their feet. The rest was easy!
