Had the best time ! The instructors were really nice and helpful, the weather the great!:) Fun and challenging
My family of four went on a trekking on a cool, damp, beautiful October Saturday. My 5 year old did great on the kids course. She got stuck in one place and the guide patiently and expertly helped her to get back up. My nine year old went through the kids course quickly and the guides took her and my husband on the adult course. The guides are patient, professional, and knew were the tricky spots were. They discreetly position themselves so they can help multiple clients if needed and were very encouraging. On a cold damp day I recommend thin, tight fitting gloves - not mittens or bare hands.
Great way to spend an energetic afternoon with your older children! The zip line is thrilling! It's not cheap, but it is worth the spend!!
I took my daughter and her two friends to TreeTop Trekking at Horshoe Valley for her birthday party yesterday. Wow! We had a fantastic day. The staff were very professional, friendly and knowledgable. The course, even though it was fully booked, provided ample opportunity for interesting challenges and we were able to keep busy for our entire two hours. Our guide, Phil, was great with the kids and really helped to make our day extra special by ensuring the girls were able to get onto "The Big Zip". I would highly reccommend this experience!
Staff were very low key and pleasant. We were just finishing the orientation when the thunder started. Due to safety reasons we had to stop our trekking under after the thunder had stopped for approx. 30 minutes. The staff were very skilled on watching their radar equipment. We were offered a chance to wait it out or take a rain check for a free visit another time. We took the rain check and really looking forward to our visit next time.
As a family we enjoyed the zipline and the mini golf and my teenagers aged 15 and 17 did the high ropes. They had done this before and like a challenge and felt it compared well to previous courses. You have to book ahead for the ropes as it fills up quickly in holiday periods which was a bit of a challenge. The first time we tried to book the office was shut at five and the staff in the rest of the resort who were still there were not able to take bookings. I emailed but they didn't reply to my email until after I had called twice more attempting to book. First time I just got voicemail. We thought the resort was difficult to find so allow yourself enough time to get there.
I can't believe that someone would write something negative about this experience. We had a great time I went with twin 5 yr old plus a 8yr and the staff where amazing. Very helpful. Recommendations, don't go on a weekend or holidays and expect great service, bring bug spray they can get bad. Pack lots of water and snacks for the kids. It's a very lay back atmosphere. Also as a adult don't expect to be able to complete all the courses they take time, no matter how fast you are it will take 2 trips. My only dislike is the ridiculous waiver, they need to rewrite it. Not the fact you have to sign a waiver but the content of the waiver. ie: In red "By signing this document you waive certain legal rights, including the right to sue. Please read carefully!!!" beside it initial. Are you kidding...
If you are afraid of heights you can still enjoy the senery, be the photographer and walk through the trails. If you want to challenge yourself to overcome your fear of heights or you love soaring through the trees then this is the place for you. We booked in advance through a phone call with Horseshoe Tree Top Trekking. It was problem free to do this and we arrived at the appointed time finding plenty of parking however we did arrive first thing in the morning and it was a cool day. There are washroom facilities at the hut where you sign in and you can always make your way back to this central location as you play the games in the trees. A small camera that would fit in a zip up pocket would be a nice asset, bring bug repellent and thin fingerless gloves or borrow the free ones from the hut. We were very thankful we had worn the gloves. The experience was exhilarating to say the least. From the beginning instructions, to the can do attitude of the staff to the Big zip line at the end it was so worthwhile. Be prepared to have a few sore muscles the next day unless you are in tip top shape. We went as an adult family and our son would have stayed all day if he could. Give it a try and you will gain new confidence in yourself.
We took our nephews last year July 2013 for the treetop trekking adventure, and what an adventure it was. Among us were a few that were afraid of heights, and by the end they all did well, both adult & youth, and everyone had a wonderful time, and has not stopped talking about it.
My girlfriend and I drove 90 minutes to arrive at Horseshoe Valley, with the sole intention of spending our money at their Treetop Trekking. Their website recommends making a reservation, so I phoned the day before, left a voice mail & sent a follow up e-mail.When we arrived at 1330, we were told that since we did not have a reservation & the last climb went out at 1300, that we could not climb. 4 others from a separate group were told the same. I attempted to explain that I made every effort to book a reservation & no where does there website say that reservations are mandatory. We turned away disappointed & discouraged. It was a beautiful day to try something new.Next time, I think we'll take our money to a competitor.
I recently took a group of young adults to the Brampton location and their experience lived up to their expectations - it was very positive.Finding this location can be a bit tricky, as you park in a parking lot a few hundred meters away and then follow a number of paths into the forest to the information wooden house where you register. (Not visible from the parking area). Plan to arrive early and give yourself plenty of time to park, walk, register, get set-up with your equipment, etc. There are toilets at this facility, despite it being in the forest. If the weather is warm consider starting in the morning, as the course if physically challenging. Facilities for food/drinks are limited on site, consider packing a lunch to eat at one of their outdoor tables, upon completion of the course. Since this is located in the a forest, having bug spray with you is also a good idea. Its possible for those who are not doing the course to follow along on pathways, underneath the tree-top obstacle course. Wear comfortable shoes if you are a spectator as you will have to walk a fair amount. (It is totally manageable, even for those who are much older). The day started out with a safety briefing and then the instructor watched as each participant tried their hand on a very low-level rope and obstacle course, to ensure that the participants understood how to operate the carbines and that the safety rules were understood and being followed properly, before they were allowed to the actual course. I thought this was very valuable and quite important as well. The adventure consists of several different color coded levels and one progresses from the easiest level on-wards until the last level (optional) which is an advanced level obstacle course. This last level was the most challenging of course and also very physically demanding, but extremely rewarding once completed. There are multiple zip-lines spread throughout the course, and one "big" zip line. If you have never done this sort of activity before, be prepared to have an adrenaline rush and to experience a new sort of fear as you make your way across ropes, through tunnels, around obstacles etc, all while far above the ground and often while balancing only on a thin wire!A great, fun, challenging activity for the adventurous soul.
Went to the Brampton location. We were charged full price for a climb and zip but the main attraction was under construction and we couldn't go on. We were promised a voucher for the main attraction for when it would open, admin and staff would not honour the voucher just because "we don't do that." Money grab....
I had booked the tree top trekking adventure before reading reviews, and after reading some of the negatives ones, I started to think I had made a mistake. However, my boyfriend and I had a great time! We did the 9:30am tour which was probably the best time to go; by the time we finished, it was getting pretty busy. It didn't seem like there were many guides but if you cared about your safety, you'd listen closely during the orientation and use your common sense. It all worked out in the end. After the orientation, they split the groups up so there wouldn't much of a line up at each course. And because we were the first group, as soon as one course got backed up, they'd open another. We didn't end up doing two of the courses; they had us start on an easy one, then quickly to medium, and we finished on their hardest one.A guide had to open the purple course for us, and he assessed whether or not we could handle the black course, which was the hardest. The way people were talking about it, I was a little hesitant, but I'm glad I did it.I have to admit, I was wondering what I had gotten myself into as we got into the park; we're both afraid of heights to a certain extent, but you definitely had to get over it quickly.I would go back because I was so focused on finishing the course, I didn't get a chance to take in the view. However, they do have their big zip at the end, where you didn't have to worry about spinning out of control. I could at least enjoy the view while zip lining.I can understand how families get frustrated because you'd wish there was a guide at every post, to ensure you're buckled in correctly. But as long as you follow their instructions, you'll be dandy!Oh, one more thing to mention, they recommend that you don't take your back pack with you, even though they recommend you bring snacks. We didn't end up bringing anything with us, but we wished we had brought our water. However, a guide told us the water was safe to drink from the bathroom taps or we could buy water. So we drank from the taps as we didn't carry our wallets with us. We found out later that they do have a little bit of storage, but nothing of importance should be kept in there.
We visited the one near barrie park on July1. We were all geared up and excited for our climbs a nd ziplines. Right after we got our orientation , it started raining heavily. Thunderstorm as well. We never trusted weather forecast, so took a chance there :) We were supposed to start at 9Am and we started back by 10.30. The first few courses are not that hard for adults. We got stuck behind a family with 2 kids. The kid would just stand there on the top for ever. Staff was too lazy to go help put the kid even. We asked if we could skip that one course and we told told NO! We wasted a lot of time there and finally that kid stepped down. As a group they were supposed to let our group go ahead. They dint do that again for the next course, we wasted more time there ! Felt bad for the people stuck on top, cos no guide was ready to climb up and help them ! They were all standing down watching ..for half and hour !! or more when we started yelling to let us go, we are late !! When we reached till purple, our guide( a dumb and stupid girl) wouldnt allow us cos there is no guide !! where the hell are they hiding when ppl pay for 3 hours ! finally we head to the bigzip and get back and force someone to get us through the purple course. We dint get time for the black one at the end , and the tour coordinator was kind enuf to allow us on the big zip for a second time. We were tired after the purple one( bit hard). But if not for the lazy staff, we would be able to complete all the courses in time and enjoy it more. It was fun and safe. We really enjoyed through all the courses ! and yeah would come again and be more demanding to the guides on our time !!
I have been wanting to something like this for awhile, so when WagJag offered a discounted package I jumped on it.When you first arrive, after parking your car, you still have to walk about 15 minutes to actually get to the location which explains the 30 minute requested early arrival time. This also allows you time to sign the waiver, and get all harnessed up before they start the orientation tour. The whole thing after they orientation seemed somewhat confusing and unorganized. One course they had me sign a book AFTER I had finished the course (BLUE), and the other course (BLACK) they had had me sign before I started. Never knew when I was supposed to be signing and when it was not required. Staff were very courteous and understanding that the 400 series highway was EXTREMELY busy on the day we went. The GPS had estimated an arrival time originally of 1:30 which was the 1/2 hour requested for our start time of 2:00. However, we didn't arrive and get registered until almost 2:45. The did allow us to go until 5:30, which was extremely generous of them.I know this is more a management thing, but I felt that there was a lack of guides, several courses have only 1 at the beginning, and another half way through It is very easy to get stuck and either not be able to ask for help, or not connect your carabeeners and not be seen. This was more evident on the PURPLE and BLACK courses, where you cannot see the participants from a distance. For example on PURPLE it starts with 4 zip lines and after the first you do three more before you see another guide. Apparently that guide was supposed to tell me something like what course was next, or if I could do black because when I got off and asked the next person he asked if the guy at purple had made me sign anything? When I asked what guide, as there wasn't one at the end of the course he asked about the one in the middle and I said he didn't say a word to me. On the other courses, they are fairly close so you can see the participants but you wouldn't know if they had unhooked or not. They give you a bracelet which marks down the time you are finished at, and also appear to have spots to be check marked either before or after you finish each course. I never had anybody check these, so guess either they were not doing their job, or they expect you to do it yourself. They do have water and Gatorade available at the little shack where you check in, but they are resort prices. $2 for a bottle of water and $3 for a Gatorade. It is a physical work out, so bring liquids and snacks if you can. Although you are in the shade, when it is warm you will work up quite a sweat. Unless the courses are clear, and you are very athletic you will have a hard time finishing all the courses, but if you do well they will let you skip courses. I skipped the GREEN and RED courses and when I was done BLUE went straight to PURPLE and BLACK. I am not sure that I would pay full price for something this, but for the discounted price it was worth it.
