W spent another wonder time at Point Farms in Sept. However there weren't any apples this year. We were told that the frost got the blossoms in early spring. We hare hoping for more apples next Sept. We brought relatives from England to enjoy one of our favorite camping places. The reason being is that we were close to Goderich which has many interesting historical features to show our guests and then go back to the solitude and wonder of nature. Excellent trails through the bush and a quite beach to sit and contemplate.
We arrived a few minutes before 5 p.m. and the gate house was closed. We drove back to the campsites and found the Camp Hosts. They had no magazines of the park so we had to just find a site. The washrooms were clean. We could not leave before 10 a.m. because the gatehouse was not open until then. At 10 a.m. a park truck came flying in followed a couple of minutes later by a car. These were employees who finally arrived to get their money from us. Ten a.m. seems a little late to me.
Point Farms is our favourite place to camp. It's not a perfect park, but it has so many great features. Its best feature is probably the beach - it's huge and clean and sandy. Lake Huron is clean and a real pleasure to swim in. The campgrounds are not the most private, but if you book carefully you can find sites with good privacy. It's a quick walk down the steps to go to the beach (and a not so quick walk back up the 121 steps at the end of the day). The staff there is consistently amazing. The nearby town of Goderich is beautiful, with plenty of activities for rainy days.
Spent just under three hours hiking and taking photographs and found it well worth the entrance fee.
We have camped here many times before. This is a great park for day trips and even better when you camp out here too. The park is right on the lake front. The sunsets are beautiful on the lake! There are many bike and walking trails. We always spend most of our time exploring the park. There are many off the trail, trails to explore! The beach is long and lots of spots to set up for a day in the sun. We liked that there is a sandy side and I rock bottom side. Dogs are allowed at the beach too. The camp sites are clean and are a good size. There are many different grounds to camp at. I recommend bringing a bike for the bathrooms. There are many 'out houses' but if you want a flush and a shower you have to go a bit farther. The showers are hot and clean btw too. We like that is close to town and lots of flea markets around too. We can't wait to go back next year.
I really liked Point Farms, it was a nice place to stay and the beach was amazing! It was a nice place to stay if you'd like to relax a while and rest. I recommend coming here! :) It's a great place for any age, child or adult.
Ok the park itself campsites and location is a solid 4 star, however not a lot of privacy for most sites, nice place I must say. But that is where it ends, given how much a site now costs per night including the reservation fee online which is too high, If I am doing all the booking it should be cheaper (cash Grab) getting close to the cost of a stay in a Super 8 or Motel 6 you would think they would be a little better, I guess it could be end of season but I went to the comfort stations in the evening and in the morning and well nothing was cleaned or touched up during that time. I think that they need to look at the US State park system where things are cleaned with military precision. I guess when you have a monopoly it does not matter what product you offer. Well I will speak with my feet and keep going state side less expensive sites and cleaner facilities.
We stayed as a family on the Huron site. The washrooms were horrible on this site. The showers were located inside the washrooms and the women's washroom had only two showers so there was always a long line up. All the provincial parks I have gone to have at least 4+ public showers and I have never had to experience long lineups. When we drove to the other site, they had 6 showers including an accessible shower, so we ended up using that on one day of our stay. The park on the other location was also bigger and nicer. There isn't too much privacy at the campsite, but it is a very nice place to camp. The beach was absolutely gorgeous with soft white sand and beautiful blue water. It was also very clean. We drove to the Goderich Marina and we were able to do some fishing in the lake. They had huge salmon, but it was too far to reach.
Came here with wife and small child. Peaceful, clean facilities, easy access to swimming (though not from main campsite where we stayed, but views from top of cliff made up for it), friendly park staff. Great choice for camping with family, close to Goderich, perfect place to stay on your way up to the Bruce.
Just came back from camping at Point Farms with 2 other couples and wished we had stayed longer. We stayed on the colborne side. The grounds are very well kept, washroom facilities were constantly being cleaned and fully stocked with toilet paper, showers were always clean with hot running water (there is a family shower/handicap), playground for kids. We stayed at site 130 & 133 which was very close to the washroom/shower facilities. There is also a laundry room which was impressive. The grounds were quiet, and security was very diligent. There is a walk down to the beautiful beach (we expected it to be a hike down but it wasn't bad, its a quick walk down wooden stairs) there is a big dog beach which our dog loved!! We drove into Goderich and caught a farmers market in the center of town on Saturday. Fresh Ontario produce. Also, take a drive down to the harbor and beach. Its lovely. We have nothing negative to say about point farms. There is a little store just outside the grounds down the street. We totally recommend!!!
We wished we knew about this park before now. We loved the park. Found the sites to be large, washroom facilities clean, and park well maintained. We loved the beach area and went several times during our stay. The park is set up high on a bluff so there were great view but, not from your sites. You are situated about 10 mins from Goderich which is a lovely, quaint town! There is lots of opportunity for biking and there is also a small baseball field where we played with the kids. If you are beach loving family, this park will not disappoint. We also LOVE the drive along the Bluewater Highway....so pretty!
Gorgeous, Clean, Peaceful site. We went at the start of summer so the trees were still a little sparse. The bathrooms were super clean, the showers were clean and the hot water was a godsend. The park itself was peaceful with lots of nice trails. A massive set of stairs down to the beach which is clean and beautiful. A nice portion of beach for dogs too! Beautiful place for sunset photos! Convenient shop on site for last minute things and a small store across the road from the park. A total A+ for provincial park camping in our books! We will be back for sure!! Bring your own wood unless you're rich! $7.00 for a bag that burns away in a few hours. (Boo!)
I've been to Point Farms a couple times before, and we've always loved it so we came back again, and to my amazement the place has gotten better! We arrived on site on June 19th at about 1pm and were welcomed to the site by a young lady at the front desk, very helpful and very friendly, and she seemed like she genuinely cared about our wellbeing. Which was a great start. We always chose site #94, it's the most private and spacious site that we've seen, and it was no different the third time around. I will admit the grass was a little longer than it normally was, but it wasn't too bad, it was probably a lot better for our tents- a softer ground! We lucked out and had perfect weather the whole weekend, it ranged from 20-25 degrees and was beautifully sunny. We checked out the beach on the Saturday, and it was great, apart from the frigid temperature. You couldn't have gone in the water if you wanted to it was so cold, but we did have a cold winter, so I'm sure Lake Huron takes a while to warm up.The bathrooms were surprisingly clean too, I believe they had a crew in there every morning cleaning, but they were the cleanest I have seen, and as far as an outhouse goes, that's saying something! Normally when you are in an outhouse you are constantly looking around for bugs and making sure not to touch anything, but I didn't have to worry about that! The only thing I will say the grounds need is a store. There is a store across from the park but it takes about 15 minutes just to drive there, and is a little over priced. All in all we had a fantastic trip, and if it wasn't 3 hours away from home we'd definitely camp there more often.
This provincial park, just north of Goderich, is a peaceful place to enjoy either a short walk next to Lake Huron, or a longer hike. I took the hike around the perimeter of the park on the Old Farms Trail. I also walked along the Under the Bluff Trail. The last one is particularly picturesque. There is also a lengthy staircase which connects with one of the campgrounds, as well as another trail. All of the above were enjoyable. I ended up spending about 4 hours there, in total, and I recommend it for anybody visiting the Goderich area, or even Kincardine if you have the time.
We camp at PF for a week in the summer every year and just love it. The beach is awesome, the sites are a good size, all staff is friendly, great trails for biking or walking, quiet after hours...... Just can't say enough good about this park, we just love it and will continue to go every year.
