Great family outing, small boats to large ones, travelling up and down the Trent system, benches to sit and dream, climb the stairs to high places.Watch when they open the locks,I believe it's the second largest in Ontario, and bring the camera
Like other reviewers have already stated, it's quite fascinating to watch the lift locks in action. If you have kids that like construction/transportation things, they'll probably love this boat elevator. There are also a number of informational plaques around the lock, explaining what things are (one of the old pumps sits near the parking lot) and how the lock works. The surrounding grounds are well groomed. This would make a nice picnic spot. In the time we were there, three boats went through, so I would imagine during the summer, you won't have to wait long to see it in action. We came through on the road, just touring around the countryside. There was a parking fee of $2 that you have to pay at the automated gated exit, so make sure you have some coins with you.
Very fascinating to go through the Lift Locks, and watch other boats go through. If you are coming from Balsam Lake - it will take approx. 45 minutes to reach the lift locks through the Canal - it is a very long and slow area through the 10 km/hr zone.
Fascinating watching the hydraulic locks. Not as high as the Peterborough Lift Lock, but just as interesting. Surrounded by nicely groomed Park.
Il s'agit d'une écluse ascenseur comme deux grosses piscines. Un système de cylindres hydrauliques (eau) et de vannes font monter et descendre ses deux bassins. Contrôler par un différentiel de poids. Du génie.
