This was a very interesting self guiding tour through the home where our Prime Minister lived. To be able to see the furniture and belongings from so lone ago. All things are in immaculate condition and the history behind each is amazing. Whether or not you are interested in history, just being able to see how different things were so long ago is wonderful. The gardens are kept up and flowers were blooming and vegetables growing in such different areas it made you hungry. We will definitely go back there again.
I have been here a few times. I really like walking through the house that Sir John lived in briefly and seeing all the antique furniture etc. but the highlight was walking through the vegetable gardens. The gardener explained so much to us and it was quite fascinating.
Interesting for young and old, tour guides dress in the period and speak French and English. Excellent learning center for school age children. The tour is both of the house and the yard.
Lots of stuff to read and see. Great history here. Kingston is full of such rich history and this is one stop that needs to be made. Very much enjoyed it.
House and garden has been restored to what it would have been like in the 1800s. It was the home for a short time of Sir John A MacDonald, Canada's first Prime Minister and has a lot of information on his work to create the Canadian Federation. We drove to the site and were pleased with the large free car park opposite. Entrance fee was low and it was all extremely good value. We started in the small museum and then watched a short film before we went into the house. Staff were very helpful and answered all our questions. We had a very enjoyable afternoon and would thoroughly recommend a visit.
We spent a lovely fall morning touring Bellevue, the home of Sir John A > The furnishings are lovely as is the setting. When you start you are shown a movie that gives an overview of the history of the house and of Canada's first Prime Minister. The staff are excellent and very welcoming. The apple orchard what just perfect in September and the grounds were so nicely maintained. For me, seeing the kitchen, pantry and the downstairs area was wonderful as you often don't get a good view of the work areas of these historic houses.
We really enjoyed touring Sir John A McDonald's former home and gardens. A great place for those who love antiques!! Lot's to see and admire!!
Beautiful grounds and exceptionally maintained. Very informative of the history of Sir John A. Macdonald's house.
I loved the place, it really lets us see how they lived and not all of our politicians were rich. He experienced many hardships
This is a self-guided tour, but the staff is available to answer any questions. The family history is very interesting and the grounds are well maintained. Even the gardener was dressed in period attire.
My wife took the tour of the first house of Canadas first prime minister. She highly recommends a visit to the house. It is beautifully restored and maintained full of period furnture and artifacts of that time period. A great piece of Canadian history. Well worth the visit.
Since we enjoy historic homes this was the one to check out. You can go on a self guided tour or take the tour with a costumed guide. We choose the guide who was very informative and sweet. The house is very well maintained.
My wife and I have lived in Napanee for 10 years which is only 30 minutes away from Kingston but we had never taken the time to visit Bellevue House, the home of Sir John A. MacDonald, first Prime Minister of Canada. It`s a piece of Canadian history which has been preserved and open to the public. It was a long overdue but wonderful experience. The house and grounds are administered by Parks Canada and they offer self tours and guided tours. We chose the guided tour which took us to the various room with a tour guide dressed in period costume explaining what we saw in the rooms. All the rooms are decorated in beautiful antique furniture of the time John A lived there but apparently only three pieces were actually owned by him. After the tour we were invited to visit the large garden which was my wife's favorite part. The young lady who is the head gardener showed us around and answered all our questions about the beautiful collection of vegetables, herbs and flowers. She was very knowledgeable about everything grown there and obviously has a lot of experience in gardening. It was a very enjoyable visit and I would highly recommend it to all visitors to Kingston and locals alike.
Americans make a big deal of their history and their leaders. Canadians should take the opportunity to visit the home of our first PM and see how he lived and learn more about him
We did the trolley tour and this was one of our favourite spot...employees were very pleasant and knowledgable. Great historic house, took lots of wonderful pictures.
