This is a unique seasonal theatre that offers two plays per summer in an outdoor venue that most often takes place in a barnyard of this country property. The plays are very well done and usually based on local history so they are quite unique and offer very good insight into the local history and culture as well as being very good theatre. There are both professional and amateur actors and the costuming and staging is extremely well done. The setting is magical and includes performances by barn swallows at dusk and often horses on local hills. The setting allows for dramatic staging including the use of vehicles, horses and other animals and lots of props courtesy of Mother Nature. There is a combination of bleacher seating and plastic patio chairs and complimentary seat cushions. This is a real bargain and well worth the drive to get to this magical setting. We have been attending for over 10 years and it keeps getting better each year. We are also patrons as we believe very much in the value of what is being presented here. Visit their web site to get a sense of what is being offered and the setting. There is a food concession, picnic seating areas under cover and a bar. Everything is very reasonable. Watch for special nights that offer picnic lunches or community BBQs at reasonable prices.
This outdoor theatre is truly a rare gem. I have been to several productions over the past 4 years, and every one of them have been wonderful. Will be seeing another one this weekend, and can hardly wait.
I was there a few weeks ago for Dr. Barnado's Children play and it was amazing!!! The production, the cast, the play, everything! It was my first time seeing an outdoor play and it was definitely an amazing experience:) An enjoyable summer activity! :)
I was blown away by this production; it was so awesome!! I have several friends who saw it and they are of the same opinion. I had never been to an outdoor theatre before and I was so impressed with the set up and how smoothly it runs. The performers in Dr. Barnardo's Children were so talented and I could not believe the performances given by the children. So much talent in this area. We ordered the picnic lunch which was supplied by Baxter Creek Golf Club and it was great. A truly wonderful evening.
The 4th Line Theatre is a truly amazing environment in which to enjoy the entertaining and often thought-provoking productions featured at the Winslow farm. We're from Saskatchewan, and whenever visiting family in the area, we definitely get tickets.
For more thn 20 Years the 4th Line Theatre has been staging play about local history on the outdoor stage of the artistic directors family farm. This theatre has gained national recognition and draws thousands to the farm each summer. Most shows are sold out in advance so one would be well advised to book ahead.
Once you have experienced a 4th line play...you will be back each year,The outdoor atmosphere is 2nd to none. You feel like a part of the play, The experience is just amazing.
Sitting outdoors at the Winslow family farm, while seeing skillful performances of local and professional actors, gives a whole new perspective into the plays which often feature the history of the area.. Have never been disappointed.
Generally the plays are related to local history (95% of the time). The venue isn't the most comfortable because of the plastic chairs but then it is an outdoor theatre. It is a joy to see youth involvement and the talent in the area. Dr. Barnardo is my fave as well as the Killing game (sorry if title isn't quite right) and Rob Winslow was terrific but he really shouldn't cameo in every production.
I've been to about ten 4th Line performances and thoroughly enjoyed eight or nine of them - making it a better bet for an enjoyable (though much humbler) theatre experience than the Stratford and Shaw festivals, in my opinion. 4th Line is community-based theatre supplemented by professional talent, with mostly original scripts that are directly relevant to life in the Millbrook, Ontario area. The performances are outdoors in a beautiful farm setting that you can enjoy before and after the play ... and even during it. Bring your own food so you can dine in the covered, licensed picnic area before the show, or order a picnic meal in advance (I've never tried that). This is a reliable country getaway if you live in the big city, or meaningful entertainment if you live or have a cottage within an hour of Millbrook.
Just saw the show "Queen Marie". I have seen 3 other plays here in previous years as well - all very well done for community theatre. The location is a bit out of the way if you are coming from PTBO, so make sure to give yourself enough time.
I have had the pleasure of visiting the 4th Line Theater many times over the last few years. Living locally this is a summer event my husband and I have looked forward to. We have been to many shows and rave about them to anyone who will listen. What is the point of going to Toronto when you can enjoy a live show right here in your own back yard? This past weekend we went to see Queen Marie. Honestly I was very disappointed. Don't get me wrong some of the actor/actresses were great. What really did it for me were the number of females who had to dress up like males to fill the rolls. This may sound petty to some, but others in our sitting area felt the same things. It ruined it for me. These were the volunteer teenagers who took on these parts. It is a shame they could not find males to fill the roles. I really think it would have made the difference for me.The last few season's I never noticed this to such a great extent. After last years final show I could not wait for this season. I hope that Queen Marie is not paving the way of the future for the 4th Line. I will definately give it another try and hope that I can continue to rave about our hidden gem to others again
4th Line Theater offers first class plays. When travelling in the Millbrook area, be sure to take the time to check out this theatre and if you have the opportunity to see a play. Should not be missed!
Great Regional Theatre!! Always do plays about local issues and times long gone by. Nice outdoor theatre
